Weather in Peterborough Part 2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I set off from Stoke for Cambridge at 10.30. It was pissing down. I went along the A50 where it was pissing down and on to the M1 where it was pissing down even more, to such an extent that the traffic was slowing to about 40 and at one point I was totally blinded by spray for a couple of seconds and nearly pooed meself. I got onto the A14 and it was pissing down. As we were driving round the northern part of Cambridge heading to the lovely Abbey Stadium (and it was pissing down) we heard on Radio 5 that the match was off!

I found the first exit, turned round and headed back along the A14. It was still pissing down. If Peterborough haven't had the pitch covered one of two things will happen tomorrow:

- the match will be called off,

- the players will need snorkel and flippers.

I've never seen so much bloody rain in one day.

Does anybody know if it's been raining (or even pissing down) in the vicinity of Peterborough ? :-{E}

And here was me assuming a basic knowledge of geography!

My trip down the M1 and along the A14 is like driving round the edge of a circle with Peterborough slap bang in the middle of it. I suspect they'd had a spot of rain there as well!

But can you be sure Jacko? Bit Pill's got a point (tho I doubt if anybody, him included, knows what it means). Howay ye owd Gadgie - Aah knaa ye torned doon the chance to go and you'd have been mighty p!$$ed off if you went aal that way just fer it ti be cancelled. But 200 yds doon the road ti the pub? Even ye can manage that (caan't ye??)

Judging by their message board they had something approaching my deluge. They have got pitch covers on though, paid for by Sky TV I understand.

Incidentally, I'd just like to thank you both for expressing sympathy at my 280 mile trip to buy a Yorkie on the motorway!

Jacko - as I'll be making somewhat more than a 280 mile round trip later today, can you please tell me where you got your Yorkie?

You could always buy yours in the ground Screacher. Sadly, ours was shut!

Do you remember that game at Swansea in the 83/84 promotion season? We went on the Saturday and several roads in Swansea were closed because of the rain - the match was called off then played the following day? Well the rain today was like that - only it went on for a good 4 hours. It really was scary on the motorway. I just hope you lot have a better trip later today.

Btw - having seen both SJP and London Road in the last three weeks, there's nowt to choose between the pitches. In fact I think there's was probably better. Just shut Fat Barry up lads ..... please!!!

Remember 83/84? Hell, I wasn't even born then pet ;-) I don't think the pitch will make much difference. I think it will be decided a bit higher than pitch level - between 5'8" and 6'3" at a guess!! I only hope we have the right heeds on the morra.
