Can you take a regular size knitting sweater pattern and increase it into a larger size? Is there a standard formula for doing so?

Karen, One thing you can try is to use a larger needle size than the pattern lists. If you want to make it just a little bigger, go up one size. If you want it quite a bit bigger, go up two sizes or more. I would do a test swatch in the pattern stitch before I knit a whole sweater, though. I hope this helps.

If the pattern says 20 inchs wide and you would like 22 inches, just divide the amount of stitches called for by 20 and then multiply that number by 22. Provided of course the stitch pattern will work out even in the new amount of stitches. *ALWAYS* use a gauge swatch to make sure your gauge is the same as the gauge called for.
