Disgrace

I've been watching the first half of the Middll vs Man U.

Midlesboro is playing like a bad 1. div side, they are not playing their chance and Man U is fielding a weakend side.

Then for the crowd !!! The even cant fill their stadium when the champions are coming.............Midlesboro fans can not be part of the feared other NorthEast fan groups, like us and Swunderland. I dont like Sunderland but they do have a passionate crowd like us.........

Got to agree. Middlesbrough are useless, but Man Utd are taking it easy, probably score in the second half.

Credit when due...

They are playing alot better in the start of the second half

ManU got exactly what they deserved. They fielded a weakened team, played the possession game throughout the first half to kill the game - with only one header on target to show for their buckets of possession. Their plan was clearly to run down the clock and hope to nick a goal - if that didn't work they would bring on RVN and Giggs on the hour and go for the throat.

Everything panned out as planned, including the Boro playing like Julian Clary in the 1st half. However Boro took off the totally ineffective ex-mackem Johnson and Marinelli, who had given the ball back to ManU every time he got it, and started getting stuck into them.

On came RVN & Giggsy on cue - actually one minute late at 61 mins - to complete the job, only for Blanc to duck under a long punt and turn around to watch Whelan tuck it past Barthez. "Oh, oh - now we're in the sh*t" was writ all over Taggart's ugly mug as they get caught on the break for a 2nd.

Well done Boro - as for ManU, they got what they deserved for their bloody arrogance.

Think it's pretty funny that Boro refused to give Man United extra tickets & then couldn't even come close to filling the stadium!

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

The reasons behind not letting them have the tickets were valid though. If they have caused trouble in the past then it's only right that they suffer.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

But did manure also get what they wanted? Exit from the cup "concentrate on the league, CL and a CL place for next year".

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

The Manure fans will be hurt by today's defeat, even if they try to put on a brave face. They way they invaded the pitch at Villa (however stupid it was of them) was due to sheer delight on their behalf, how nice of Middlesbrough to give those fans their come uppance.

They played an under strength side which couldn't match a weak 'Boro team. Strength in depth? My @rse!

To be honest Paul, I really feel that if ManU had gone all out to win this game from the start they could and would have simply swept Boro away - in the 1st half Boro were bloody useless. However, Manu tried to be very, very cute and it backfired on them.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

But normally an under-strength team would go out to fight for their place in the first team. This one looked like it couldn't be bothered, and thankfully they got exactly what they deserved.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

Taggart, of course, is as gracious in defeat as ever...

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

"We should have won that game, we know that and I think everyone else knows that"

WELL, Mr Ferguson, WE should have won the league in 1996, we know that and I think everyone else knows that.

If you don't put your chances away, you can only blame yourself when you get beat.

Easy now, the Boro fans have been incensed that the price for this game was hiked to 25-32 quid despite the Boro's rubbish form and it being on the telly. Rob Lee got 18,000 for the same sort of greed. It's actually quite reassuring that only 17,000 could be enticed to "only come to watch United".

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

Hey Paul!!!!....care to tell me the trouble we've caused in the past?

Boro are a feckin' disgrace and their fans are Nationwide.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

LR they constantly stand and did again yesterday and were even singing about it, the next Boro game i think moanu will get even less allocaton. I for one think you should have had away fans banned altogether because of the pitch invasion at villa - along with cardiff et al (just so u dont think im getting at moanchester).

Not that i agree with it mind LR ive stood at many away matches myself but thems the rules.

-- Anonymous, January 27, 2002

Funny that the boro fans staying away dont make headline news , imagine if NUFC hicked prices and we stayed away.
I can just see the headlines now "TOON ARMY forced out by a Shepard"

-- Anonymous, January 27, 2002

KB - that's no different from almost every away game I've been to - the one exception being Chewsee in the WC when I was forced to sit down (ahem!). I can assure you, I will be standing today at Posh. For once in a long time, I'll be able to experience "standing terraces" again.

Two points:

* Boro were quite right to reduce ManU's ticket allocation for their fans previously flouting the regulations regarding standing in seating, and apparently smoking - although I have to say I didn't realise smoking was an issue. Just because they don't take the standing issue seriously at OT - indeed quite a lot of the home fans were standing at the recent Toon game there - is no reason for other Club's to be similarly negligent. I suspect that only after we have an incident where a few fans are killed will people really start to take this matter seriously. I also agree that the allocation should be further reduced - until they finally get the message.

* I hadn't heard that Boro had actually increased the ticket prices for this game. If that is the case - as Softie suggests - we should applaud the Boro fans for staying away rather than deriding them. They were making a statement for all of us, and the Management of our Clubs need to listen to the message. They won't, of course.

Was their allocation reduced just because of standing?? FFS, away fans almost always stand(As Screach pointed out). You can't penalize one club and nobody else if that's the issue. If it's due to pitch invasion, perhaps putting the away fans far enough away that they can't get to the pitch would be a better answer. Like at SJP. ;- ))

I'd read somewhere that MoanU were even willing to send their own stewards to police their supporters. Perhaps treating supporters like human beings would go alot further than assuming they're all hooligans out to cause trouble.

-- Anonymous, January 27, 2002

Kennyboy....yer actually quite believably wrong. We sat down for nearly all of the game.....until the stewards left their positions at the ends of the rows to go protect the pitch. They took our little joke seriously

"..oh every single one of us....is going on the pitch"....

:)

Clarky.....that has to be a wind-up.....but I'm gonna bite anyway.

Hypocricy springs to mind and many on here will back it up...NUFC fans ain't any different in the majority to us...you'll stand too.

Yesterday we didn't stand...at Villa we did...but to hear the likes of Boro FC and your goodself making statements like "let's see how they behave next season and we'll think of increasing their allocation" only goes to show how we...football fans , are treated by the authorites and even our own. We're either treated like animals or treated like children. I like neither. I don't like being told I have to sit at any football ground when the Rugby fans, concert goers and songs of praise hoolies can take the "terraces".

Stand up for yerself marra ;-)
