Campaign Finance Reform

Whatever one thinks, about the relative culpability of Republicans vs Democrats in the Enron mess, I think the mess emphasizes the need for campaign finance reform. A large number of politicians appear to have been just plain bought by that company, whether they admit it to themselves or not.

Given what I perceive to be a clear need to reduce the role of money in political campaigns, there are differing viewpoints with some validity, as to how this should be done. For example, it's quite tricky deciding about the non-partisan (or supposedly non-partisan) single-issue groups.

I for one have always insisted that we have to treat big business and big labor the same. We absolutely don't want to reduce the influence of one without also reducing the influence of the other.
