Beat Spurs OR beat Peterborough ?

Apoplexy predicted.

Hobsons choice. (Robson's choice?)

Beat spurs! For the simple reason that we are unlikley to win the FA cup whereas Champions league footy is within our grasp. Besides, if your a player coming to the toon do you want to play in the uefa cup or the cl??

Having said that I think we'll do both. I don't see us dropping any more points till the makem game where we will drop two.

Spurs. If forced to choose, I'd far rather we concentrate on the league and finishing as high as possible.

Can you guarantee my wish Pit Bill if I tell you?

Beat Spurs, because then we'd draw with Peterborough and get a replay and stuff em ;)

Granted Screacher. You don't even need to tell me.

Not as straightforward as it might look, I don't think.

If we lose to Peterborough, we'll never hear the last of it. The media will lock it in the archives to be regurgitated at every opportunity, and it'll go on for ever. Better to lose to somebody like Manure in the cup. Not so memorable.

Similarly if we lose to Spurs. Once the agony goes away, it'll be just another league game we lost, and there's no guarantee it'll even make that much difference to how well or badly we finish the season. If we do lose, I think there's still enough time to make up for it, as long as we win the games we should win.

Under these circumstances, I think I'd rather we stuff P'boro.

The draw wasn't an option, Jim.

What about beat P'Boro and draw with Spurs?

-- Anonymous, January 25, 2002

Well, when you put it that way, PB.... I can see your point. So yes, it would be better to beat P'boro. Particularly as losing on Sunday in a match broadcast live around the world would be particularly awful.

I can't even contemplate defeat in either game - and I don't think we will lose either game.

However, I have to say I'm really worried about our midfield against what will inevitably be Peterboro's battlers. Lack of adequate m/f resources could potentially leave our season in tatters after these two games.

Beat Spurs, no choice for me.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

One or the other Paul, no ideal solutions allowed.

Short term, stuff Spurs, live with the future (like forever) crap of losing to P'boro. Long term, beat P'boro, forgotten in weeks. Lose to Spurs, effects immaterial in about 4 months.

What happens if we beat P'Boro but lose out on the league title by 2 points? Do we blame you PB? :)

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

They could just as easily be the two points we chucked away at Leicester. :-{E}

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

Yeah, that's true.

Just don't want some third-rate clogger hacking Keiron out of the rest of the season and the World Cup. And hopefully he won't pick up an injury against the Posh either. We'll stuff Spurs if we make no tactical concessions to them, as we are the better side.

Win or lose, Dyer could end up clogged.

It's the long term lasting impression that makes me go for beating Peterborough and losing to Spurs.

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

.....don't give a sh*t about "the lasting impression" - I'm used to that problem. I desperately want the PL Championship.

BEAT Peterboro and LOSE to Spurs.

That way we proceed in the Cup and WIN IT and after Spurs we win ALL of our remaining games and WIN THE LEAGUE.

Simple really...

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

Accepted Clarky, but losing to Peterborough definitely means we won't win the cup, losing to Spurs doesn't necessarily mean we won't win the league.

If we missed out on the CL by 3 points, I might start to wonder, mind. :-{E}

I like Mungo's theory. :-)

-- Anonymous, January 26, 2002

How about we beat Peterborough and lose to Spurs.

However, Spurs field an ineligible player so they get docked 40 points and we gain 3. Easy!
