Study finds that TV is addictive - Duh!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I found this article on the scientific American about a recent study that found Television addicting. I wonder how much tax money they spent figuring that out!

What I thought most interesting about the study was the name of the co-author. His name is MIHALY CSIKSZENTMIHALYI. Okay, how the heck do you say THAT!?! Wow.

The study actually is quite in-depth and has some very interesting conclusions in it. I'd have read the whole thing, but couldn't pry myself away from the tube long enough.

I promise, there's nothing perverse about the article! PLEASE PLEASE don't can my post! :-) (just kidding)

Anyway, here's the study.

Interesting article, but I personally have no difficulty walking away from the tv at any time. Better yet, I don't turn it on it the first place.

The homesteader forums on the internet, now that's a different story, LOL. I confess, I am addicted!!!

Isn't he the guy who came up with the creative flow theory?

Agreed Lenette, the TV has nothing on this place. If only those millions of addicted people knew what they were missing!!! LOL

Fortunately (?) Microsoft has introduced my to the term "multitasking" so now I can watch television WHILE I'm online. ;o)

Duh...Yep, that's' what I thought too when I saw it. If people need to be told it's addictive, we are really in trouble!! Seriously though, it was a good article.
