Should I swop 50 M summicron and Contax T3 for 35 M Asph

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I recently posted a request to swop a 50 s'cron M and a Contax T3 for a 35 s'cron Asph. The general consensus from the reponses that I got, is that I should keep the 50 and continue using the T3 as a 35.

The point is that I mainly use a noctilux as an every day lens (a little bit heavy, but the images and results I get are worth the pain),that I do not ues the 50f2 all that often. The same goes for the T3.

I thought that I could streamline the equipment down to a noctilux and a 35asph.

Suggestion and comments are welcomed.

Kind Regards

Gavin

Entirely contradictory advice to get the ball rolling: I found the T3 a bit slow to focus - how do you get on with it? If you care about your back and feet and want to take a camera everywhere you go there's a lot to be said for having something light if you can get along with it. As for the 50 summicron, I got rid of mine and always regretted it - on the look out for another one as we speak (then again I don't have a noct.). The 35asph is what m6 photography is all about for me. There you go - entirely contradictory - how about you save up and have all of them - that would be close to ideal IMO.

noone i will tell u that.

when u buy a leica equipment, its for keeps.

Well, you have your own reasons to do what you want to do... why should you care what anybody else thinks?

Just my opinion but if you don't want to wait who-knows-how-long for a person to come along with the exact opposite needs from yours who wants to make such a swap, why not just sell or e-Bay your T3 and 50, take the money and buy a 35ASPH if that's what you want?

Only you can decide if you'd rather have the 35 asph. However, I agree with Jay that if you decide to go for it, then you're probably better off just selling your gear and then buying the 35 asph. It'll probably be more expediant. Good luck and happy shooting either way...

Slightly OT perhaps, but the T3 is only slow to focus if you do not change custom function 2 so that it focuses on halfway depression of the shutter release. If set that way, then the shutter release (further depression of the button) is as fast as almost any other caamera (except the Leica of course ;-).

Gavin. A somewaht biased opinion, but I think that people who sell Leica often regret it. If you want to get rid of the T3, set it and use the money to help buy the Leica 35, which I'm sure is considerably better. But hold on to the 50 Summicron. My rule of thumb is that any Leica or Leitz lens you sell will be missed.

I fully agree with Eliot! I'll never sell anything Leica. Once I have it I keep it whether I use it often or not. Leica stuff isn't expensive, you just have to wait a little bit longer to buy each piece. But if you sell a piece, you WILL regret it. Save the 50/2, and save up to buy yourself that spiffy 35 'cron, and I promise you won't regret it.

I don'ty know how many times I've sold my great lens for something else that I wanted and regretted it afterwards. keep your 50 and T3, save & save, and then get your 35. You will feel it's been worth the effort.
