Spurs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I have posted lower down the board on this very subject but felt inclined to make a point about the 'mighty Spurs'

I too was impressed by them v Chelsea last night. However the way they have been written about on this board makes me think some of us are comparing them to Real Madrid FFS! Don't be scared of bloody Spurs! Remember they have to play our team, we're not just going to roll over for them.

This was Spurs best game since they played us remember. They have been decidely mediocre in the league. Not saying the game at WHL won't be hard, it will and yes we could get beat. ALOT will depend of BR and how concerned he is about them. I fear tactical meltdown actually as he gave them too much respect at SJP and probably will next week.

Newcastle should play their own game IMHO. Yes Sheringham and Anderton looked good as did Poyet but we've got Dyer, Shearer, Robert etc.

I'm worried about some of you! There was less concern shown when we played Man United!

If the tractor boys can do the double over Spurs, we can beat them! Please its more than my sanity is worth if we loose! :o|

I think the Hillingdon TV reception problem has reoccured in Wark - I thought Chelsea looked knackered and disinterested, while Spurs were no better than average.

I saw nothing to make me concerned, just a little annoyed that come next week Spurs fans will be all smug and unbearable. Twats.

In case you've forgotten Lynda, most people on here believed we'd lose at OT, and quite a number thought we'd get stuffed - I wasn't one of them incidentally, but then I'm an incurable optimist (!!).

I want to win the bloody PL: I don't just want to sit in ManU's slipstream and hope to qualify for the UEFA Cup. Because of that, I happen to believe it is essential to get something out of next weeks game at WHL. Spurs are a decent side, who play a different formation to most PL teams, have a number of good, experienced and tactically aware players. They are also a team who despite the score, made us look tactically naive, nay inept, at SJP. I don't want that to happen again.

I want us to go out and take the game to them, play to our strengths, and attack them down the flanks where I believe they are vulnerable. However, when they have the ball I want us to know precisely what we are doing, who is marking who etc. Obvious? Yes, but it didn't happen at SJP, and it didn't happen with Chelsea last night. Coincidence?

In particular, I want us to have thought through precisely what to do when Sheringham performs his blindingly obvious ploy of dropping deep, leaving us outnumbered in m/f and with four defenders marking one striker. This is not brain surgery - neither was it last night.

I cant understand all this about Tottenham ?????

Look at their league position and tell me that we should fear them ?

They are 11 points behind us, FFS !!

Yes they are a good team, but remember we beat Arsenal at Highbury, and we beat Leeds every time !

If we play our game we will do well. If we defend tight, they will suffer from our pace, think of how they will fear Bellamy, Dyer, Solano and Robert, with Shearer winning the most part of the balls in the air !!!!!

Come on lads..........

I disagree, i think we SHOULD fear Tottenham....they are our MAIN competition for that 6th spot and we need to be on top of our game to beat them.....yes they've been inconsistent this year but HODDLE'S teams have CONSISTENTLY beaten us....he's a very tactically aware manager and we struggle to cope with the formations that he throws at us.

This is an important game for us....a very important game, we need to have a good solid game plan for it....

Ya Gav, maybe we should try 3-5-2?

Our game plan should be to pin their full backs intheir own half by playing Robert and Solano as far forward as possible. Tighten our fullbacks inso we have a very solid back 4 and play Robert Lee just in front of them. This worriez them as our perceived better players are forward and therefore danerous, and our defence is tight.

Maybe

A very poor Chelsea performance made them look fantastic.

I hear what you all say and maybe tactics will win the game but I just felt a bit aggrieved by the status afforded Spurs by some of us. If they were that good - they'd be top of the league.

Nothing personal like! Just refuse to be intimidated by the North London wideboys who have a bloody high opinion of themselves to start with. They are not all that.

This is Spurs who have had the double done on them by Ipswich Town?

This is Spurs who threw away a 3-0 lead at home to Man Utd, who were incidentally going through a bad patch at the time?

We shouldn't underestimate them, but they aren't that good. Dyer and Bellamy are both small and quick. Spurs' back line isn't very pacey, it is more suited to coping with strong physical players. If we play proper football along THE GROUND, we will do OK. If we play long balls, as we have done so often this season when the going gets tough, we will get beaten.

Jay

I am verry concerned for your sanity...Maybe you shouldn't risk WHL

so if you want to send me your ticket...............

-- Anonymous, January 24, 2002

bob its nice to see that you are concerned for my well being.

One of my Spurs mates asked if I wanted to stay until friday so I could go in a free tour of WHL. She couldn't understand why I declined that delight!

But alas I plan to keep my ticket and suffer through all the booze pre and post match.....and dance about in the streets of WHL when we win!

I am nothing if not an optimist!
