Calibrating a Leica MC meter.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I recently got an M3 with a LeicaMeter MC that slips onto the hotshoe. My observations conclude that this meter does not seem to use batteries and seems to be Selenium Cell based. Is this true ?

Also I noticed that the meter seems pretty off. (shows 2+ stops more). Is there a way to calibrate it ?

Thanks a lot,

Rana

As far as I know, no. The selenium cell has deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Fortunately this can be done fairly inexpensively (Leicaly speaking). Contact these chaps:

Or, if you are in the old country try:

You might consider spending your money on a handheld meter but I must admit I prefer using my MR-4 to a handheld meter.

There is a zero adjustment screw on the bottom of the meter. You might try fooling with the adjustment especially if it is off 2 stops everywhere.
