EF 100-300 mm. F5.6L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I've read this in www.photonet.demon.nl/nikon/grover.html about the 100-300 F5.6L lens. First number is optical quality (3.5) and second mechanical quality (4):

"100-300 f5.6 EF-L 3.5,4 (Gets Loads better when you put a tripod mount on it! A buddy of mine makes such a mount, costs about $150 or so)"

Could anyone help about the comment? How can I put a tripos mount in this lens?

Well, Peio, if some guy's got a tripod mount he makes for this lens, it may be worth $150--if it works. The problem with attaching a tripod mount to a push/pull zoom is that there is no place on the lens barrel where it doesn't get in the way of the zoom ring. I'm having problems picturing the lens right now and I don't have any catalogs handy. There may be a way to do it but I cannot imagine why Canon did not make one available if it was a simple matter to fit one.
