"I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship"-Louisa May Alcott

When you are learning to sail, you must learn not only how to sail on calm seas, but during storms as well! Life is like that also. We must teach our children how to weather storms, face disappointments, overcome obstacles. We do not do them any favors by trying to smooth their paths overmuch. They should be taught that the world is not always a nice place, and that they can face it with courage and conviction.

Amen, Melissa! Reminds me of what my husband's dad told him when he became a teenager. "Don't get into any trouble that you can't get yourself out of, because I'm not going to do it for you". I think we do a great injustice to our children when we bail them out of bad situations that come from their own doing. I do realize that sometimes you have to intervene but they must also learn that their decisions and actions have consequences. Our daughter is only 12 so ya'll pray for me, cause I have a long road to hoe:)

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time! Last year, I did a cross-stitch with this quote for my best friend's birthday - We both enjoy being sailors! ;) THANKS
