Massive crowd troubles. Game abandoned. Not replayed. Both sides docked 6 points. The usual.

I'm reliably informed that the chances of volcanic activity in the North West are remote. However, meteor showers are expected soon. Fingers crossed.

Draw. If not a draw then a Liverpool win - I'm not giving up on the Championship just yet.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Man Utd's winning streak must end or the league will end up as boring as last year. At the same time we'll probably be battling with L'pool for a CL spot. So A draw wold be the best. As many bookings as possible and a long-term injury to Ruud.V.N

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

My gut feeling is that Man Utd will win although Liverpool are capable of closing shop and may blunt Man Utd's attack more than any other side has done recently.

A draw would delight me.

Softie's answer would be my #1 choice, by far the highest entertainment value.

#2 choice is Bobby's answer, entertainment value almost as high as #1 but relies a bit heavily on the cooperation of Mother Nature(who has probably been paid off by someone. allegedly)

#3 - Liverpool

Want Liverpool, but in reality I can see an easy 3-0 victorey to Manure

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Liverpool or a draw I reckon, but the way my day is going. Man U will walk it !

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

The betting around this game is ridiculous. A couple of months ago Liverpool totally stuffed Man U and tonight you can get 5/1 on Liverpool winning again. Now I know Man U have won 126 consecutive games against world class opposition since that game but 5/1 is ridiculous.

Similarly ridiculous is the 14/1 odds on Liverpool winning the title. If they won tonight they'd be 2 points behind current odds on favourites Man U.

Now we all look back and think how silly we were to write off Man U when they were 6th or 7th. Liverpool were odds on favouurites and seemingly walking away with the thing. The next two games could see Liverpool out of the Premiership chase and out of the cup, they may be having a dodgy time but every one at the top has had that.

Tomorrow I'll try and explain how Man U were always obvious to beat Liverpool so comprehensibly.

Another draw, following on from Leeds vs @rse would be smashing. Anything else, I can't contemplate. And a lot of cards would be icing on the cake.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

gotta love some of the results on here, but in an ideal world it'd be ultimately best if old mother nature kicked in and the game was postponed. If there is a chance to reschedule the game at such a time where the outcome didn't affect us, I'll take it!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

As an advocate of attractive football, I'll be hoping for as many dirty, crippling fouls as possible with the associated cards and injuries.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Ok, so that's Keane sent off....what about the other 21 players? ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

I'll go for the game being called off other than that a draw would suffice I suppose. Although I'd rather see leicester beat Arse tomorrow than pool beat manure.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

5-1 for Liverpool looks fairly generous to me the way they've been playing.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Sorry to be such a pessimist RE our league title ambitions, but wouldn't a Manure win be better?

They are 90% certain to finish above us IMO, but we have a good chance of finishing above Liverpool so a defeat for them gives us a chance to open up a gap.

A draw is probably the best result overall as it "keeps our options open", but failing that a Manure win would be better than the Scousers winning it.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

wouldn't a Manure win be better?

A draw is probably the best result

Don't sit there too long Paul - you'll get splinters. :-)

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

liverpool it is then, things are bunching up nicely. All we need now is leicester to pull of a massive victory tomorrow night and we have a game in hand over everyone bar aresenal. Hey if this doesnt make the lads pull their socks up and win nowt else will.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

No I mean a Manure win better than a Liverpool one...

If we are going to go for the title properly, we WILL NEED TO WIN AT SPURS.

Sounds daunting, but we've beaten far better teams who were going through far better spells.

Leeds in the league have won about 7 on the bounce I think if you take out our two victories which mess up their whole season. Arsenal was and still is a massive result for us.

However, win our game in hand and we go top (in theory). Do you think the newspapers will not be printed tomorrow? I don't think they learned how to slag off "UNITED" at their sports journalist schools.

Canny game. ManUre started like an express train (or a 15 yr old lad on his 1st date). Liverpool weathered the storm (like an old pro) but 'pool got going in the 2nd half and showed their @ss, er, I mean class.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

There was a pregnant pause at the final whistle as the all Sky commentators and pundits considered what the hell to say when they realised the unthinkable had happened. Hilarious.

ManU weaved pretty patterns, but created few chances. Liverpool weathered the early storm, and looked the better side at the finish. Lasting impression was the Liverpool defence which was immense.

Man Utd were quite frankly sh*te, although Liverpool's style of play is far too negative - if they won the league and teams copied their style in order to beat them football could lose a lot of neutral fans.

However, Liverpool did look the better of the two sides, they created more shots on target.

I wonder how much it would take to tempt Stephen Wright away from Liverpool? He really did look like he could be a big player for England in the future.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Yes Paul, I thought Wright looked good. Won't be allowed to leave Liverpool tho - one for the future.

Taggart just being interviewed on Sly Sports. He thought ManUre deserved to win, and even up to the last few minutes, thought a draw was the worst they would get. Tough sh!t mate. Welcome to the real world.

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

I thought that even Taggart would realise that Manure DIDN'T deserve to win the game. To put it simply, if you shoot from 20-30 yards all the way through the game and don't get a shot on target, you can only blame yourself.

They had no width and no real threats on goal. Too many of their so called stars didn't play well enough. Even in the second half, when Liverpool had 11 men in their box to defend a corner, Man U still had three men back on the half way line. It seems to me as if they were afraid to over commit, and in the end didn't commit enough, and lost the game. Hard luck Mr Ferguson!

anyone notice my comments earlier, mmmmmm, an extra £2.50 for my piggy bank there !

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

LOL. Just peeped at the Red Issue site. They would all prefer to get beaten that play like Wimberpool, Beckham slows them down, haven't been a decent side yet (although one of them does say that they beat us in response), can't get past decent centre halves, disaster for English football if the dippers win the PL, sack Veron..

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

:-D

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Got a call after the match from an excited Liverpool supporting friend - he says since his son was born Liverpool have played Man United 5 times and beaten them all 5 times!

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

Not a disaster for us....I would've preferred the draw but I think we're all comfortable in the knowledge that Liverpool will lose their form against lower opposition whilst Moan Utd were starting to look a bit ominous.....even if we're not in the hunt for the title then it makes it more interesting seeing the top teams lose.....

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

liked the interview with SAF where he suggested Man U would always win games like at Villa because Man U plkayed exciting football, Liverpool on the other hand came and played the way they know best and frustrated a better side and then scored a good goal.

SAF cos he has no defenders of his own to be proud of is now excluding them from that 50% of football skill known as defending, any one who does pay it some attention is essentially boring

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

Gerrard got man of the match and Wright was noted in despatches but I thought the German was brilliant, such a shame Gullit's Dutch man management skills weren't to the German's liking, if we had a midfield of Solano, Hamman, Dyer and Robert I'd be a very happy boy

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

I'm pleased we're within sniffing distance of the top, and 1 goal keeps us with a better goal diff. Also pleased that Manc get on Radio 1 didn't have the chance to be smug...in fact, he was almost gracious.

Hammann is a turncoat scumbag. Better off without.

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

Ever the contrarian, I thought ManU played some terrific football last night. In the 1st half 'Pool were simply hanging on, although defensively they were absolutely outstanding - Heskey was Heskey, and YMO was playing in midfield, badly I might add.

'Pool weathered the storm, gradually came back into it, got a grip of m/f and shaded the 2nd half.

Liverpool had a game plan and executed it very well, but ManU were far from outplayed - it was actually quite similar to our recent game at Highbury. The result improves our chances of winning the PL, but we have to sart accumulating points again, and quickly.

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

Just desserts for my Manc pal after he posted my photo on the Strawberry claiming I was a closet red !

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

What are next week's other premiership fixtures? Arsenal play tonight of course, but we could leapfrog them next week. So if we manage to beat Spurs, do we get to sing 'We are top of the league' again? Although two wins on the trot in London may be too much to ask for.

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

We have Spurs then Bolton Man U have Bolton (A) and then Sunderland (H) Arsenal have Leics (A), Blackburn (A) then Soton (H) Liverpool have Leics (H) then Leeds (A) Leeds have Chelsea (A) then LIverpool (H)

so I think the chant is "Someone is top of the league"

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

I think Bolton could get a good result againt mancs 1-1 or even a 1 goal win

-- Anonymous, January 23, 2002

BTW, the OT pitch didn't help Man Utd much, did it?

I hope they get it sorted before they play Hoof FC in a week or two.
