Speed: The new Lee

Sort of. Sayeth St YBR on icDP today:
"Gary is now trying to play something like a playmaker in the middle of the pitch because we have had to change the balance of our midfield since Kieron came back .

"When we had Rob Lee in there we had Gary making the runs which Kieron is now doing so he has had to change his game and he is doing very well for us."

Great minds think alike. Believe it or not, I was only musing to myself this very thing yesterday. How many fools are looking on??

I'm a fool under this description, but I'd like to suggest that there was little difference between the role Gary Speed plays now to that he played pre-Dyer, the main difference is that Dyer does actually make the runs that Gary Speed allegedly did in the first half of the season. The improvement in Speed's performances comes from the replacement of Lee by Dyer.

I think it was always the obvious move, and as MacB has said he's done the role before anyway, pretty much. Speed's aerial presence in that position shouldn't be overlooked either

He's got forward more now Dyer's playing than he ever dared to knowing that BilLee Whizz was covering the width of the pitch behind him if he went forward.
