thanks for the update. I was not aware that HSUS and PETA were attacking the shipment of live birds/animals. guess I shouldn't be surprised. grrrrr.

Thank-you for this update I have just finished emailing both my senators and my cogressperson(shes a she) in regards to this matter. I urge you all to do this may not make a difference but you can bet that the opposition is so we had better have some numbers too. I would coment on PETA but just read a thread in regards to starting a thread that would be very contriversal and I would bet this would be one. I do believe in the reasonable and humane treatment of animals what ever their end use is to be. gail

Maybe now I can ship my worms also. I couldnt believe it when the window clerk declined my worm shipments because of the moratoreum and lack of verified routing confirmation.

Well this is sure promising news. A s abreeder of goats, myself and others were concerned about shipping them by air and the restrictions proposed would ahve seriously effected our sales. I agree with gail, need to be treated humanely. I recall reading in an old dairy Gaot Journalk from the 70's that almost 5,000 goats died on a ship trasnporting them from africa to, ummmm forgot, brain went dead, but anyways the ventilator system broke and they suffocated to death.

Oh for heaven's sake! Guess I hope my old rooster doesn't croak this spring. Sheeesh..... hey folks, better buy your incubators while they are still in stock...

To further clarify....just in case someone decides to *liberate* your shipment, since this looks like a go...

gail missouri, you mean we are not supposed to post anything that is "contraversal"? What is that about? That is what makes forums interesting and worth reading and partaking in. I hope what you read was mis-interpeted? My oh my, that wouldn't be any fun at all! LOL Anyone know bout this? As for PETA, look them up and read their charter. Right there in black and white. They believe that NO ANIMAL should be a "captive" of mankind. Be it worms, chickens, dogs, horses, sheep, cats, you name it. We are supposed to turn them all "loose" to go free and be happy. Go figure. LQ

my grrrrr comment was in reference to the following statement taken from the update:

"In order to counter the false claims on mortality in the shipment of live animals made by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the Peoples' Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and other animal rights organizations in the previous legislative battle, a mortality study has been undertaken to compile as much factual information on this subject as possible to present to the Members and staff in the Congress." -Bird Shipper of America

if there are exaggerated claims of mortality it reminds me of the lynx hair controversy in Washington state. ends justify the means. I too vote for humane treatment of all animals if we're voting here. the hatcheries I've dealt with seem to go to great lengths to insure the safe and healthy delivery of the chicks and ducklings I've ordered. those who would end the shipping of poultry by mail - either as a bottom line cost cutting decision (airlines) or as an animal rights issue - are not my friends. everyone is entitled to an opinion - at least one to a customer - and I am entitled to mine. I stand by my grrrrrrr.

apologies to Rogo for this tangent and thanks again for the update.

B.Lackie, I understand your grrrr. I'd want that in upper case letters. LOL It sure is exasperating isn't it, the lengths organizations who don't have a clue, will go do to make our lives miserable. I think some of these people in PETA and HSUSA need something to do. LQ
