greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

Just to let y'all know, we are waiting for the mover dudes to pack us up again.

The plumber is going to start on Tuesday at 8 am. Hopefully done by Friday. then the tiler will retile the house floor and the bathroom. the carpenter will install the new cabinets in the kitchen. Carpeting relaid/replaced as necessary.

We expect to be out of the house for two weeks. Maybe less. then moved in for good. till the next disaster.

It's eleven am Monday, and no sign or word from the mover dudes....

You staying at that hotel again???? or with family?? I just would hate all this moving around...but try to think of how nice it WILL be!. omething good can come of all this, we just don't know what it is yet!

My parents are out of town so we're using their house.

It's 4:10 PM, no sign of the movers but they said they'd be here at 330 PM. The storage place closes at 6 PM and it takes 20 minutes to get there.

I don't think we're moving today...

Humph. Can't count on anyone anymore. Hope they show up in time.

5PM they got here.

They loaded the truck, but it sits in the driveway till tomorrow because the storage place closed at 6 PM. When they get here around 8 am tomorrow we go to the storage place. Then one more trip with the rest of the mess, meanwhile the plumber [will?] should be here working at 8 AM.

What fun! We're staying here the night, then tomorrow night we'll probaly go to the parents' house. I put 'The Club' from our truck on the van. Don't want anyone driving off with all our shit. LOL

You're taking this a lot better than I would!

Well, what are we going to do? The adjuster that sent them said he would do whatever he could to make up for this delay.

We're making a list.

I take it the pooches are back at gramps? What about the kitty?

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

dogs and cat are here, out back watching things thru the doors. LOL

One more load to the storage place, and meanwhile there is a huge hole in the kitchen floor. The plumber is going to make a new line from bathroom thru kitchen to bathroom and then outside. Both bathrooms are going to be trashed, and the tile floor in the house is trashed.

It's quiet right now while the plumber dude is gone to fetch something, but man o man when he is jackhammering you can hear it a block away with the windows and doors shut~!

because they can't seem to find the old line under the house they are going to make a new trench for the new pipe thereby trashing both bathrooms. So, new floor tile throughout the house except for the two carpeted bedrooms, and two new bathrooms. Or so we hope...

Barefoot... have you thought of writing about your tales in a book???

YOu do make interesting reading... your life I mean... ;-)

...at least make sure you secure the movie rights... (and do let us know which hunk you have in mind to play your part)

Title: Down The Drain, The Money Pit Revisited.

ROTFL

As to the hunk, well, I'll have to think on that. When I was young and cute and desirable there was a little girl on the next block who had a crush on me because I looked like Shaun Cassidy. This was when The Hardy Boy's Mysteries show was on TV. Shaun has let himself go downhill these days. LOL

I suppose I should select Tom Cruise. The box office draw with his name would help, I think. He'll have to wear lifts to get the height, tho.

Less than an hour to go and the plumber takes off for the day. I managed to talk him into doing the other bathroom first so we'll have a solid floor to walk on tonight to move our clothes out and other stuff, shaving kit and so forth.

The dogs have decided they must be with me. One on my lap as I sit at the computer, the other under the desk keeping my feet warm. As if I need my feet warm when it's 77 degrees outside.

I think our new carpet is going to be trashed. So far, the hall carpet is gone. He cut it out before I realized that we needed the floor to walk on tonight.

I try to keep my mind on what it will look like finished. It's hard, but I'm trying.

new tile. new tile. new tile. new tile. [Barefoot's new Mantra] LOL

Have you ever seen the old Cary Grant movie "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House"?

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2002

No, I don't recalll seeing that. I guess I'll have to rent it.

Please let it be funnier than 'The Money Pit' with Shelly Long.
