www.vcdhelp.com has some guides to doing this. You may need to find a program first called "tinra" to convert Real Media to AVI. Please be aware that Real Media is the worst codec there is for video. It drops frames and records at ridiculously low resolutions to save space. Don't be surprised if the final results of this conversion are not very good.

tinra doesn't always work

sometimes the only way is to do a screen and audio capture to avi.

use either hypercam or snagit

then convert that to mpeg-1

I have a lo-end system, so using TINRA usually ends up with a 3fps video:-( I came across a RealMedia Analyzer (RMA) written in Pascal at http://www.anime.com.ua. This gives access to the structure in an RM file and I'm looking at trying to alter the timing fields to try and fool RealPlayer into showing all frames. If it can do this, then TINRA could be used to extract the full video stream, which could then be retimed and put back with the audio in VirtualDub.
