I'd be very very happy with those results...don't think you've got enough draws in there though and you're very optimistic of us beating Arsenal at home....I'd pretty much go with your results but say we'll lose to Arse at home and we'll draw against Fulham, probably lose against the poxy mackems as well....

That'd be 7 points of your total and still i'd be happy with that!

Sorry guys, but anybody who's categorical about what we're likely to do, must be living in a dream world.

You'd stand more chance of winning the lottery jackpot.

Maybe reading the title of the thread again might help...

"Remaining Fixture Predictions...."

I predict that we'll wait until ManU are 12 points clear of us, then we'll go on a stormer and snatch the league title away from them.

and forgive me if I'm mistaken but there are a possible 3375 (15 x 15 x 15)combinations of results for our remaining 15 fixtures. I think you'll find that those odds are significantly less than those for the lottery.

One day I'll be accepted in to the clique on here and my posts won't be blasted away! hehe

Funnily enough I was doing the same thing not an hour ago (sad gits, eh?) and came up with 21 points rather than 31. I feel as though I was being quite realistic, but I would imagine the true total will fall between the two. Hope you're closer than me ...

Perhaps if you changed your email from that of an "accademic" you'd be more likley to have your views accepted ;-) I mean, just look at Bobby. Neebody accepts him either.

PS. I'd be very pleased if your predictions come true.

Dunno if the3 format will work but hopefully you'll get the drift. Newcastle score is first (FOR), regardless of home or away.
Team For Against Points
Spurs 1 2 -
Bolton 3 0 3
S/ton 2 1 3
Mackem 0 2 -
Arse 1 2 -
Lpool 1 3 -
Ipswich 2 1 3
Bburn 1 1 1
Everton 2 1 3
Villa 1 1 1
Fulham 4 1 3
Derby 0 2 -
Chalton 1 0 3
WHU 2 2 1
S/ton 0 1 -

Not many clean sheets

Apologies -back to HTML nursey school for me.

Nit picking like the clappers TJC, I have to point out that your predictions are categorical, otherwise the format would have been :-

30/1 Wed Tottenham MAYBE WIN, MAYBE LOSE, MAYBE DRAW

etc.

No need to get fussed about TJC's "predictions" or the quality thereof. Far better to refer to them as targets, and use them as a yardstick metrestick against which to assess our progress. So TJC targets us to get 31 points which will see us finish on 74. I've not checked past tables but that's very nearly 2 points per match over the season and must be a top 4 place. Indeed, I think we'll be very close to the title with 74 points. No team is managing 2 points average per game and Manure are presently 1 point away from this standard.

Obviously, several of these predictions will go awry - all you do then is adjust the target accordingly. So victory at Spurs will see us aiming for 77 points.

Interesting numbers. Quite a tough target, 31 points from 15, 10 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. It can be done though and I think we can do less well than this and still get a CL spot. I reckon 68 points will be enough for the CL spot but we might as well aim a bit higher than that.

Well maybe a bit Screach. You can learn a lot from Shakespeare. "To be or not to be. That is the question." or "2 c's or not 2 c's. The question is academic!"

We should really be aiming for 15 wins out of 15.

Every game is winnable, and going in a game to get a draw is usually counter-productive.

Highest number of points achieved by a team in fourth place in a 38 game Premiership season is 68. Lowest number is 63.

So if we get 25 points from our remaining games we would be VERY unlucky not to make the Champions League. 8 wins 1 draw and 6 defeats should do it but why settle for a mere 68?!!!

I worked out something similar and posted it a couple of weeks ago before we drew with Leicester. I thought we would get 9 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses, but then we went and drew instead of beating Leicester, so that changes my run-in to 8 wins, 4 draws (incl Leicester) and 4 losses, so 28 more points incl the Leicester game, giving an end of season haul of 70. Based on the average points in all the 38-game seasons of the Premiership, even 70 points would give us 3rd place. Even in the highest-points-scoring season, 72 would have given us 4th place, and in the lowest-points-season (when we were 2nd equal with 68 points), we would have been 2nd. Which means Champions League (requiring a top 4 position) is within our capabilities. Looking at it from the scraping-into-the-UEFA-Cup viewpoint, (6th or 7th place?), we would need about 57 points in an average season and 61 in a high-points season. So on the pessimistic side we need about 19 points, 6 wins and a draw to secure a UEFA place. Still shouldn't be too hard to achieve. We just need plenty of draws in the next few internecine games between our fellow top 5'ers. And of the Top 6, we've played all our games against them except for Arsenal at home and liverpool away, while the others have got to play each other multiple times in the run-in.

Going by their Premiership Spreads, IG Sports reckon we'll get around 65 points. They're generally not far off. Mind you, at the beginning of the season, they reckoned we'd get about 52, IIRC - a miscalculation which benefited me to the tune of £125!
