Toshiba 210e lousy VCD playback

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I know Toshiba stand alone DVD players have some problems with VCD playback, but I bought a multi-region 210e recently and VCD playback is blocky/jerky at times. My encoded VCD's (using TMPEnc and latest Nero for burning) play great on the PC through PowerDVD - no problems there. But what can I do to get a smoother playback on the Toshiba? I used Memorex CD-R and Infiniti CDR-W. Help!

Play the VCDs on a host of other set-tops to see if they still produce blocky video. If they don't return the Toshiba where u bought it. If the VCDs are indeed blocky, ensure they are clean and spotless before playing; try recording the VCD at x2 or even (gasp!) x1; use other CD-R brands like Kodak silver+gold and Imation (steer clear off 20cent CD-Rs with names like Hello!, Dragon, Ritek, etc).
