beehive question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Village Commons : One Thread

I have searched and have found no answer on other forums so I will stop merely reading and jump in. I have a hive, maybe 5-6 boxes (I am a newbie here, so if my definitions are wrong please forgive me.) excluder (I think) and I need to clean them (They are used). How do I do it? Thank you for your help.

I'l try to fit some research time in on this and get back to you. It may be a few days, as I have to schedule around my "To Do" list.

you say you HAVE a hive? meaning the equipment, but no bees yet? Used equipment? someone else had bees in the before you? Easiest is to scrape them, inside and out,, paint scraper,, hive tool either works good. Then scorch the insides with a torch,, dont burn them,,just scortch. Then repaint the outsides only,, you sould be able to tell what had pain before or not. If its new equipment,, just pain the outsides. When you torch them,, be careful,, propolis and wax can catch fire VERY EASILY,, VERY EASILY..
