Report from Georgia A-meet

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

The news from the first day was the weather -- cold (40) and heavy rain. It was ok for running, but not good for hanging around discussing routes.

The weather also made out flight interesting. We left KC after de-icing we took off in a snow storm. We climbed to 10,000 feet, but then instead of climbing to "our cruising altitude," we started going down a bit. The pilot explained that they couldn't pressurize the cabin and we'd land in St Louis instead of Atlanta. So, we flew from KC to St Louis -- in a heavy snow storm the entire way. After about two hours in KC, we got back on the plane and made it to Atlanta. The problem was apparently because the back door wasn't closed all the way!

The result of our travel problems was that we arrived at our hotel in Athens a bit after 2 a.m. rather than 9 p.m. as we'd planned. We've all been tired today.

Back to orienteering...

Snorkel had the best result -- he ran the green in 30 minutes. He said he was a bit sloppy.

I ran reasonably well despite being far from sharp. I was two minutes behind Snorkel.

Mary struggled the most, finishing in a bit over an hour after a couple of big errors in the beginning.

We all plan to run better tomorrow.

Here is the short version of the second day...

Nice weather.

Snorkel ran about the same.

Mary ran much better and finised under an hour.

I orienteered much better and ran a bit worse...two minutes back of Snorkel for the day.

Delta got us home with no unexpected stops!
