There is grandulated fly bait at feed stores, spread it where the animals can't get to it. And also hanging fly strips, both safer than putting thing on newborns.

I use a barn spray that the main ingredient is pyrethrin. You get it at the farm store and I've also gotten it from Jeffers. The brand I have now is country vet CV-38. I comes in a tall aresol can. I use this and diamentous (sp) earth . I feed the DE to the animal and also sprinkle it around on the floor. Make sure you wear a dust mask with the DE. The spray will work on the problem now and the DE on the larvae. Hope this helps. Where are you at to have flies this time of the year?

Charles, here is what I use,it is from the book "Raising a calf for beef"-1 quart of clean motor oil mixed with 2 ounces of liquid camphorated oil(Vick's Vapo rub liquid).mix well, saturate a cotton glove and apply to belly back and head.It works,I used it this past summer on my calf.Good luck
