So do we want a draw/Leeds win/Arse win?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

What's the best scenario for us then? I personally wish they would both lose. Suppose a draw is a better bet though.

BTW - NOT looking forward to the Man U w*ankfest that tonight's 'Premiership' will be.

Van Nistelroy....blah blah..........can't write them off......blah blah........going to win again....blah blah.............

Think I'll tape it, then just fast forward to our 1 min 'highlight' package.

To be honest, looking long term this season, probably an Arsenal win.

Leeds have sh*tloads of suspensions coming up and will start to fall down a bit perhaps. Arsenal are virtual certainties to finish above us, so we may as well have them beating Leeds.

No way - a draw would be by far the best result for us, with a Leeds win a distant 2nd choice.

Arse win. It's highly unlikely we'll win and Arse are probably best equipped to make a realistic run at the title, so if we aren't going to win, they're the least offensive next best choice. ;-)

The question is a no-brainer. 3 points are up for grabs in a game but if the game is drawn this number is reduced by fully 33% to just 2 points. A draw please so that 2 of our rivals lose 2 points each rather than just one of them losing 3.

I'd be happy if all games not involving United finished as draws, particularly games involving the leading clubs.

I agree with Jonno - all these top team "6-pointers" need to end up as 1 pointers for both teams - we gain if they all drop points like that.

Draw - please!

depends on our aspirations really. Generally a point each is best, but not always.

It's Man U v Liverpool coming up, woudl you rather they shared and Liverpool lost ground on us, or Liverpool win and Man U lost ground on us.

While we are not top we want the teams above us to drop more points than the teams below as they are not a threat. If Liverpool beat Man U then we have (ignoring the rest)

Man U P24 Pts 45

Newcastle P23 Pts 43

Liverpool P24 Pts 43

If they draw we have

Man U P24 Pts 46

NUFC P23 Pts 43

Liverpool P24 Pts 41

In this second scenario if we win our game in hand by 11 goals we go above Man U, in the first scenario we just need to win it to go above them.

If we are realistic and say we are playing for a CL place then we want Man U to win, and the Liverpool are three points behind, with an inferior goal difference having played a game more than us. This may be better as it could reduce the serious top four contenders to four teams as Liverpool fade away.

Just to make things even more complicated Liverpool have Leeds in a couple of weeks.

That was my thinking Macbeth.

Arsenal and Man U are CERTAIN to finish above us, I have absolutely no doubt, so if they are playing top 6 teams then they should be the ones winning. I don't care who wins the league to be honest, but I'd like to finish as high as possible.

If Leeds won it would be very tight at the top, a loss for us could see us down into 5th very quickly. An Arsenal win and they overtake us, but Leeds and Livepool have more ground to make up on us.

As I see it, we want to aim for as high as we can (obviously) but realistically, 3rd place is the best we will get.

1-1

Arse level just before HT. No mass brawls yet. Boring. ;-)

YES ft 1-1

-- Anonymous, January 20, 2002

And we're still 2nd

-- Anonymous, January 20, 2002

Of course, one iffy performance and we're written off by Laahndan pundits after being hailed as genuine contenders.

Arse and the North Yorkshire Thugees both played like freshly passed ordure in the second half of the match just finished. They'll just have had an "off day though". Yes indeedy.

Oh yeah, and Sky are fekkin' hypocrites: they'd been hyping that match as a dirty game all yesterday, and now pretend to be pleased that the expected carnage didn't in fact happen.
