streaming problem with burning using Nero 5.5

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm a newbie.

I'm using Nero 5.5 to burn vcds and usually don't have a problem. But when burning one particular mpeg, it said I did not have the proper frame rate or whatnot. So I converted to the right stuff using TMPG, but now I get a different message from Nero. It says something about "streaming invalid" and won't allow me to burn it. I gives me the option of turning off standard compliance (which I'm told is not good) or to re-encode the file using Nero (which I'm also told is not good). What should I do? Thanks.

Let Nero do what it wants anyway and see what gives.

Well, first I tried using Nero re-encode the file, but that failed miserably. It registered as being 5 min long, which in reality is about 42 min. Then I tried turning off standard compliance and burned it, but the resulting vcd came out like I was missing frames, as if I was playing a scratched vcd that would skip and look grainy. So what should I do now?

Amanda, There's no problem using Nero the worlds best cd burner, the problem is in the encoding, if ur using TMPGEnc in encoding ur in the right place, lol that's my favorite mpeg encoder too, just click the load button & select "VideoCD (NTSC).mcf"(don't forget) then click open button(this file are usually located at the "template" folder). This program has a capability to adjust color correction, noise reduction, edge enhancement(i frequently use this 3 settings)and etc. to do this, just click configure-->advanced-->then select this 3 settings (do not change the Video source type, field order, Source aspect ratio & the Image positioning method). That's it! Enjoy making VCD's

Hi Amanda,

can you get the exact error message Nero gives when burning the vcd. normally Nero gives quite good error messages, and lists whether the audio or video stream are not standard. If we know this we can tell you how to configure TMPGEnc to encode a correct (standard compliant) stream.

PS : Burning non-standard vcd isn't necessarily bad. I use it to create longplay audio vcd's (up to 4 hours) :>)

The message you are getting can sometimes be fixed by demuxing and remuxing using a VCD template, assuming your input video is within spec for VCD (proper resolutions, frame rate, bit rates, etc.). If demuxing/remuxing doesn't work, consider telling Nero to ignore the warnings and burn it anyway and with any luck you can still watch it. Most often this message indicates a problem with the format of the video that can be fixed with remuxing, but if you still get the error after remuxing to VCD format, something is not quite right in the way you encoded it.
