greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I have had a paper weight for the past 2 years in my office. The other day the new secretery came in and said "oooh, that's a nice camera Mr Newton"

OH how I laughed,"Sandra you silly girl, thats not a camera, its one of those Leica M6 paper weights, cost me $2500 with the window on the front"

"no,Mr Newton its a camera"........she said?

I don't get it....

Herbert, kinda weird, don't you think?

If you take out the shutter and put in a powerful ferrous magnet, they're also ideal for holding paper notes to the door of the fridge.

Or you could put an M adaptor on a small alarm clock...

And you trust this person with important work? Expect her to think on her own in your absence?

How about in the book "The Lord of the Flies"

Instead of having Piggy use his spectacles to start fires he uses his father's expensive 50 Noctilux as a magnifying glass.

Scheeez

And all this time I've just been using my lenses to take pictures when a whole new world of applications for my fast glass has yet to be fathomed

Or how's about this application?

The M6 TTL Hazelnut Toaster Oven.

On a sunny day remove the lens on your M6 TTL, place a nominal sized hazelnut on the metering dot then replace the lens. Point the apparatus at the sun. Cooking times will vary on the maximum F stop of your chosen lens.

"Hey Hoyin, that's a nice old transistor radio you got there!"

"Dammit, it's my new Leica M5!"

Where's Giles...

-- Richard (rvle@yahoo.com), January 18, 2002.

Ok, after this little jewel of a post from Mr. Newton, we should not hear any complaints about the comparatively rational and coherent Alfie.

Maybe a little more water with your wiskey, Herbert?

-- Hil (hegomez@agere.com), January 18, 2002.

Oops. Meant to say "Where's Gulley?" since he started that earlier thread about strange things going on.

-- Richard (rvle@yahoo.com), January 18, 2002.

...just observing...:)

-- Giles Poilu (giles@monpoilu.icom43.net), January 18, 2002.

Thanks, Richard, but somethings defy commentary.

Herbert Newton = Alfie?.......................

-- Muhammad Chishty (applemac97@aol.com), January 18, 2002.

Er??!!

Maybe this suggests that when management has a jewel of an opportunity in front of them, they too often ignore it or don't get its real value to them.

Rememer RCA in the early '50s when their scientists presented liquid crystal TV displays? Management said "TVs don't look like that" and promptly sold the technology to a small Japanese company.

Boy!!!

Herbert, whoever you are, I look forward to mre posts from you. We need someone with a sense of humour around here. Remember, though, when making jokes for the Leica User market, you have to put big smiley faces at the end of each line otherwise they don't get it.

Somehow Herbert Newton's post has the wrong email address. Please do not post replies to this email address as I have no idea what you are talking about and I have had to delete a lot of messages. Thanks

Camera does not make good paper weight, too big. I have two dozen Murano paper weights, beautifully made.

Good for macro photography object
