DAVIE, Fla. -- Police are responding to a shooting on a South Florida college campus that has sent two people to the hospital.

The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. Friday at Broward Community College's central campus located in Davie.

A college spokesperson said that the incident was the result of an attempted murder-suicide. A campus spokesperson said that a man shot a woman, then turned the gun on himself. Witnesses told police that the man shot his girlfriend.

The shooting happened in between the college's performing arts building, Bailey Hall and the building that houses the English department.

The two people were taken by helicopter to Broward General Medical Center, but so far there is no word on their conditions.

The campus, which is next to Nova Southeastern University and the Miami Dolphins' training camp, has been evacuated.

evacuated? there was a man with a gun, who shot a student, so naturally they decide to make sure all the people present are outside leaving? No doubt they figured to confuse the shooter?

Two shot at BCC's main campus in Davie

DAVIE – Two people were shot on the central campus of Broward Community College Friday morning, police said.

CBS4 news reports from an overhead helicopter showed emergency workers tending to at least one of the victims on the school’s grounds.

BCC main campus is located at 3501 Davie Road, which is just south of Interstate 595.

Reports are the two were shot between Buildings 4 and 5 around 11 a.m. Early reports say one is dead. The other was being stabilized at the scene and will be rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police believe the shooting stems from some sort of a domestic dispute involving a man and a woman.

No other details were immediately available.

I'm not happy about this report.

Short of incidents like the shootings at Kent State University, colleges -- especially cc's -- were generally safe because students wanted to be there and were less likely to shoot up their "home."

I hope this is primarily an isolated incident.

One shot dead, another wounded in BCC shooting

One person was shot dead and another seriously wounded in an apparent murder suicide on the Davie campus of Broward Community College Friday morning.

Police descended on the campus, at 3501 Davie Rd. The shooting happened shortly after 11 a.m. between Buildings 3 & 4 on the central campus.

Joe Fazio was an eye witness to the shooting. He said the couple were walking between the psychology and music buildings.

``I turned around and heard her fall,'' Fazio said. ``It seemed like he shot her in the back of the head. I thought someone was messing around with fireworks.''

[My guess is the guy is going to the hospital, the girl to the morgue.

I don't know the background, but I'm a little surprised that none of the former vets took out the shooter. I have a sense that many of them are carrying guns, legal or not, against just such an incident.

Since the guy shot himself, why waste another perfectly good bullet?

I hope the girl is the one in the hospital and recovering, and the guy is dead, if he was the shooter. These murder/suicides are all too common.
