Couch napping

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

After living (and sleeping) alone for more than 20 years I find that I preffer the couch to a bed. There is a feeling of comfort in having that second surface in physical contact; any time I catch a cold or have anything ailing me that is where I end up. Has anybody else noticed this?

Yep! My ma started sleeping on her couch after my pa died. :-( I assumed it was for the same reason. --Happy trails, CF

I don't know why but yes, I prefer the couch to the bed for napping. You're probably right about the extra surfaces. I have a great bed- we finally got a decent mattress- and a perfectly nice warm hubby, so I perfer that at night, but if left alone, I'd probably go for the couch.....

My Mom has always slept on the couch since my Dad died in 1983. She even wants to sleep on our couch when she comes to visit. When I am sick that is where I prefer to sleep too because I like having that solid back of the couch there behind me. It is just comfortable for some reason.

This reminded me of something I have forgotten for years. When my sister and I were little, our mother would tuck a pillow behind us when we took a nap. I wonder why, but it was very comforting. BTW, I love to sleep in the computer chair. Just throw something warm over me and I'm out like a light.

My MIL uses a body pillow, as she needs special support that she can't get from a couch (health is poor). She's used it since she has been living alone, too.

Every once in a while I'll sleep on the couch... reminds me of being married... ;o)

When my designated other is out of town, I put a king size pillow in the bed to back up against. Yes, it's the cuddle factor.

I often drag my blankets over to the couch and spend the night..last night at 2am, my hip hurt so badly I couldn't stand it another second, so I left my gently snoring hubby and got those nice old quilts out of the cupboard and three pillows...the couch allows me to prop my leg up on three pillows without having to do a balancing act..the back of the couch holds them firmly in place....I was 100% better and fell asleep right away..the downside is that at 7AM, I was awakened by getting my face slurped by our German Shepherd, AND had one of the cats (Virgil) curled up like a cannonball on my tummy..worth it for the sleep!

Like Cabin Fever's ma, my mother in law started sleeping on the couch after my father in law passed away 11 years ago. She's almost 83 and I think it would about kill her but she does fine.
