Military Jets Collide in Arizona TUCSON, Ariz. –– Two military fighter jets collided and crashed in the southern Arizona desert Thursday, the Air Force said.

One of the two pilots was taken to a hospital. There was no immediate word on the fate of the second pilot.

The single-seat A-10 jets from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson were on a training mission and crashed about 25 miles east of Douglas, base officials said.

The military did not provide immediate word on the pilots, who were assigned to the 355th Wing. A nurse at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center said one pilot was being evaluated at the hospital and appeared to be stable.

The A-10, used in close air support of ground forces, gained fame during the Gulf War for attacks on Iraqi tanks.
