Broke - so thats it then

Sky running a headline this morning saying Bobby has admitted he has NO money to spend until next season and will not be adding to this seasons squad to beef up the title push.

He is qouted as saying that he will have to work within the limits of his income and funds are unavailable

So all this talk of young Jenas is paper talk. Needless to say freddie is on the other side of the world and will be unavailable for comment.

Interestingly Forest have admitted that Jenas will be allowed to talk to any club who coms in with a realistic bid. 4.5 mil is being muted -and say several clubs have made silly offers in the light of Forest being broke.

It was reported somewhere that we had a 4 million bid turned down but they would take 5 million.

I wouldn't expect Bobby to be very open about how much we have got or not got. This Jenas deal looks real so we must have around £4M at least.

Aside from Jenas though - if money was no object, who could we realistically buy at this stage of the season who could bring alot to the team? I know which positions need strenghtening but could we buy the players to fill them?

If we are a potential buyer, we wouldn't want to appear as if we have money to burn. If a player we are interested in becomes available at a reasonable price, I'm sure we would spend. Until that happens it does no harm to trot out the 'we're broke' line.

I watched the programme in which Bobby said this (see YBR thread). Bobby did talk about money and did say that our next major outlay would be in the summer but this was in the context of Leeds buying Fowler to boost their title hopes. I thought he was saying that we couldn't buy big just now, not that there was no war chest at all.

I would suspect that our "offer" for JJ may have been based on installemt payments - say £1 million now, the balance in the summer.

Given Forest's own financial problems, it could well be the proposed method of payment they have turned down rather than the amount offered. This is the same problem that is inhibiting the Boro's signing of Diego Forlan.

Clarky - I'm still a bit unsure of the rules about part-payments and installments. Is it completely up to the two clubs involved as to how the payments are made, or are there some stipulations by the FA or Uefa, such as you need to pay 'x'percent up front, or that all paynents need to be made within a year, or whatever?

Pete, I agree about keeping our powder dry which is why Douglas Hall going on about our being very cash rich was utterly the wrong thing to say.

this is nothing new... YBR has not bought anyone MID-SEASON in his time here. All his purchases have been done during the off-season. I wouldn't go so far as to say that funds are unavailable though. I'm certain the board would sanction the use of funds if we really needed them, but that doesn't seem to be the case. With YKD back we seem to have depth in midfield, and Shola wouldn't be too bad a replacement for Bellamy if he gets a suspension.

Dougal, do you ever expect daft Douggie to do anything other than the wrong thing? I've criticised Freddie on here many a time but he is starting to win me over, his heart is undoubtedly in the right place and he certainly seems to have a canny business head on him (that's in the geordie and scots definition of the word), Douggie on the other hand is a spoilt multi-millionaire's son who doesn't have the sense he was born with.

i believe he started with no sense and then deteriorated

According to today's papers, we are not currently budging on the 4 Million but may do during the summer. Apparently, Jenas is happy to stay at Forest for a while and Newcastle is his preferred club because YBR has been watching him for a couple of years while everyone else has only just become interested.

I understood that Jenas is very similar in build and style to LKD, and that leeds were after him for this very reason .

Leeds want skinny players ??

-- Anonymous, January 21, 2002

It's a genetics plot whereby they're hoping to mate the players with the fat girls in town and hopefully produce less obese kids....

I've heard they're also looking to bring Ginola in to counter the ugly twats they've got their as well..

If leeds cant get dyer then they'l sign jenas , or well sell dyer to em and well sign jenas...
