Rebel2000 Partial metering area

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi

I allways have difficulty in finding out exactly 9.5% at the center of the view finder to partial meter. My friend's camera has a circle marked at the center to denote the spot metering area. I can see a circle in the center of Rebel 2000 too. Is it that partial metering area? But I think it is much less than 9.5%. If there is no marks then how can we find it out? Is there any short ways to do it?

Regards Sharath

Try using the "light bulb" test method.

Point your camera at a source of light whereby the background is consistently lit. Start off with the light source at one side of your focusing screen, and slowly move the camera so that the light source moves towards the center of your screen.

By observing where the meter reading jumps (higher shutter and/or smaller aperture), you can map out the sensitivity of the partial meter. Use the focusing sensors as reference points.

Not perfect, but way more accurate than Enron’s financial statements.

The Canon literature indicates that the 35-segment meter on the Rebel 2000=EOS 300=EOS Kiss III camera is similar to one in the Elan 7E=EOS 30=EOS 7.

From discussion on the Elan 7E group the metering diagrams for the EOS 7 are detailed at the Canon Japan website (in Japanese). See:
Partial and CWM patterns and
Evaluative (Interactive diagram!)
