John Gregory: terrified of the Toon.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

John Gregory has revealed that the only team he fears his side playing in the Premiership this season is Newcastle United. It is the resurgent Magpies as opposed to either Manchester United, Arsenal or Leeds that the manager does not look forward to playing. Villa were on a high when they last travelled to the North-East to face Bobby Robson's side at St James's Park on November 3 - they had gone to the top of the table in their previous game by beating Bolton Wanderers 3-2 - but Newcastle ensured that Villa's stay at the top of the table lasted only a week. Gregory said: "We have been embarrassed once this season and that was at Newcastle who embarrassed us from the first minute to the last. They are without doubt the best team we have played. "We can only go on what we have seen and the problems they caused us. We got off the field losing 3-0 and it could have been six or seven, but we have competed with all the rest and no-one has caused any trouble. "Obviously in the last 15 minutes against Manchester United we were in trouble but for the previous 75 we held our own and led 2-0. At Arsenal we were leading 2-0 and at West Ham we were 1-0 ahead. We went to Leeds and picked up a point. We have them all to play again so if there is anyone to fear it would be Newcastle."

The feeling's mutual. I know we're all terrified of Gregory whenever his name is mooted as a Toon manager.
