Jancker

Just been reading on RTG about the mackems problems with signing a striker. They mentioned that Christian Jancker from B Munich is available. Now I normally keep up with world/euro transfers etc and I've never heard anything about him being available.

However, if he is then we should pull out all the stops to get him. IMO he's a fantastic player, with winning experience both in the German domestic cups/leagues AND the European Cup. Not sure what price tag has been mentioned though.

I believe he has been 'available' all season TJC.

Reidy was interested in him during the close season but was quoted ca.£10 million I believe, and predictably lost interest and signed Lillian instead.

I read somewhere recently that Jancker couldn't get into the Bayern team and wanted out to improve his WC selection chances. Reidy has rekindled his interest, and I think the fee being mentioned now is only ca £5m - he may be out of contract in the summer.

He is very decent and would be precisely the sort of player to replace Discopants. However, I'm not sure he would be a good fit for our team. I have to say mind that he would be a hell of a good buy for £5m of anyone's money.

If you're right about the price then that is an amazing bargain. He's the sort of player that if you can get him for that price then you should. Similar to the Acuna situation - didn't want him but for the price he had to buy him.

If we did get him for that price and gave him a season I would guarantee that his value would at least double if we were to sell him on. He's one of those big name players that any team in Euro would want - inc. Sunderland!

You look at all the teams at the top now and they have got at least 4 or 5 TOP strikers, we have 2, plus 1 crock and a couple of younguns. I'd pay £1m more for Jancker over Jenas anyday.

I would love Carsten to join our club, but Reid has denied interest in the lad and is pursuing Wesley Sonck from FC Genk (to add to his timber yard).

Carsten would be the perfect replacement for Quinny, and could possibly prove to be a saviour for Reidy - the dozy jancker!

Is this Jancker all that good? I may have been misinformed but I read somewhere that he has scored about 5 goals in 45 Bundesliga games...is this true? I'm not sure that it can be....

From what I've seen of him over the years he's a skinheed James Beattie type of player. Before Beattie came into his little bit of form recently that is.

5 mill sounds about right then. I might be interested if doctors diagnosed that Carl Cort was never to do a Lazarus and get off his deathbed but otherwise I wouldn't be particularly bothered if Jancker went to another PL club.
