Is there an adapter for R lenses to be used on an M body?

If so, will it correctly engage the rangefinder distancing etc...thanks,

The rangefinder will not work. R lenses don't have the cam or any other means of providing distance info to the adapter.

Leica offered an adaptor as well. The number was 22228 and it originally was to mount R lenses on one of the Leicina movie cameras (which took M mount lenses). It is best only to mount wide angle lenses as they are the easiest to guestimate the focus with.

Don't use the Leica adapter #22228 on a M6 (or M6TTL) made after 1985-86. There is now a black plate on the top of the chamber which will be damaged by the bayonet of the adapter. Or ask a technician to cut a piece of the adapter's bayonet.

The 22228 was made originally for the Leicina, not for the Leica-M, that's why the bayonet is not exactly the same.

In Germany "Novoflex" (Memmingen) offers an adapter for R-lenes to be used on Leica M. I used it with a Super-Angulon-R 4/21 mm and the seprate viewfinder (21mm) with success. Regards H.Frisch
