Contax t2 died / repair

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Have a T2 that is awesome. Developed a 'catching' sound when it opens a while ago, but hasn't changed. My wife was shooting some slides the other day and "it just went dead" Lense out, no response, no display. I changed battery, no change. Is there a reset process? How can I get the film out as it has not finished or re-wound?

You need a changing bag or a darkroom to get the film out.
Open the camera back, in total darkness obviously, and lift out the cassette. Then lift the film clear of the advance sprockets and just pull it gently off the takeup spool. Try to grip the film only by the edges.
Once you've got all the film clear of the camera, you can then use your thumb and finger on the little knob of plastic that sticks out of the cassette to wind the film back into it.

BTW, a camera that just goes dead doesn't sound very 'awesome' to me.
