Scanning slide films

Hello there,

I wonder whether this question is related to this forum or not. I am very new to the field of photography. I went through the subject line of the questions asked in this forum. But could not find what I need. I want to know whether it is possible to scan a slide film on any scanner. Or do you need special scanner/software to scan the slide films. So far I have been using negative films and is quite satisfied with it. I heard that slide films are many times better than negative films. And in order to store them in the long run, a digital copy is always good. Thats the reason I would like to know whether it is possible to scan a slide film.

Thanks in advance

Your question is not really related but...If you have a film scanner that already does negatives, it should be only a matter of changing the setting in your scanning software to chromes...Open your scanning software and there should be some sort of icon that shows a negative image. Try clicking on that or up in your preferences menu. Cheers

I have several students who scan slides all the time. One is out of the country until next week but i will check with him then. I am sure you will get more specific "how to" answers but in the gobal sense of things it can be done.

Perfectly possible. In fact scans from slides and negatives can be practically indistinguishable, except that the dust shows up white on negs and black on slides. ;-)
