Can you tell me some information on the earthquake in 1989?

Start with "S F Almanac" by Gladys Hansen--the 1995 edition.

Good luck in your research.

I'd be happy to do so. First, it was 7.1 on the Richter scale. Its focus was 11 miles below the peak of Loma Prieta in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It happened at 5:04 P.M. on October 17, 1989. It lasted 15 chaotic seconds. It terminated a 50 foot section of the Bay Bridge, destroyed the Cypress freeway, and Divisadero and Beach street, well let's just say it was like a mini Ground Zero (sorry if that's offensive). I could go on and on and on all day, but you and I have lives! Beat this, Kurt! (Just a litte friendly competition).
