Hello! I was wondering since I have a dedicated VCD Player which plays VCD 2.0 and has the label DVCD, would it play SVCD, XVCD or XSVCD? I was wondering if the only differences between these are the bitrate values? If I burn a VCD at 6Kbps bitrate, would it play as a SVCD or XVCD? I know I can burn non-compliant VCD's in NERO so would burning at a higher bitrate be playable on a dedicated VCD player? Thanks for any input you can provide me.

Most likely it will not play any of those discs. Dedicated VCD players typically have poor support for anything except commercial VCDs. You'll be lucky if you can play VCD burned to CD-R on it. Very lucky. XVCD is less likely to work than standard VCD and SVCD won't work at all. SVCD uses MPEG-2 video and your VCD player won't support it I'm sure. Burning a VCD at 6 Mbps makes a XVCD. SVCD must have MPEG-2 video and that bit rate is too high for SVCD anyway and wouldn't even play in a machine that supported it. If you're curious, I suggest you burn to CD-RW and see what, if anything, works on your player. By the way, DVCD is simply VCD format burned to non-standard 99 minute CD-Rs.
