Coming from Behind (oo er missus)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
How many times is that this season? 5 or 6? This has got to be some sort of record... certainly for Us.Does this :
a) reflect a dodgy Newcastle defence early on
b) mean that our front men take time to settle in to a match and don't create early chances
c)reflect that the oposition can only keep our fast lads down for a while, then in the second half our speed and fitness gets us through tired defences
d) reflect the passion and never-say-die attitude the lads now have
e) all or none of the above
Discuss.....

I'll post the breakdown from 1995/96 to the present tonight (if I can winkle the missus off my PC - bloody students!).

c and d, without a doubt. Forget that Leeds first/only goal, pure bloody fluke.

Another thing - have we gone ahead and lost this season? Can't remember it.

We've won from going behind 5 times, and in 4 of the last 7 matches. We've also come from behind to get draws v Chelsea and Sunnnnerlund. The only time we've let a match 'slip' is at Charlton when we were a goal up and drew.

g) show that Cloughie was right and that it is indeed a game of 90 minutes (or 98 at Old Trafford)

I think that we can thank the Inter Toto cup for the new found resilience in the team. Coming from 4-1 showed how much the character the team has now. Definintely f or d :-)

It is more a case of the drip, drip, drip effect. We are now trying more things, with a left and right sided winger which means that we experiment with ways to break down a defence and eventually come up with one that works. We have more options and so try each of these options
