nero problems

I'm using Nero 5.5 and have been having trouble burning a video file downloaded from Morpheus. When trying to make a SVCD it says:

The file xxxx.mpg is invalid, need MPEG-2 which was encoded for Super Video CD: audio: 44.1Hz MPEG-1/2, layer 2; stereo/dual-channel/multi-channel video: 580x580 at 29.97Hz or 480x576 at 25 Hz

The following problems were found: stream encoding which is invalid for a Super Video-CD invalid video stream:23.976 frames/second, 352x250 pixels

Then it gives me the option of turn off standard compliance and continue or to re-encode the file. However, when I try to re-encode the file, it gives me a message saying:

Due to patent license restrictions, the MPEG2 encoding/converting is not available.

What can be done about this so that I can properly make the vcd? Thanks in advance.

U seem to be mixing up VCD and SVCD. There are distinct differences and requirements between the two. Why not start with VCD first? The file you gave it has the exact resolution for VCDs intended for NTSC playback: 352x240. When u invoke SVCD it WILL expect you to give it an MPEG-2 stream with a resolution of 480x480. If u really must do SVCD, forget Nero's encoder or lack of it. While Nero is good at many things, MPEG-1/2 encoding is not one of them. Use TMPGenc instead. And for more SVCD stuff, try www.geocities.com/aussie01au.
