Just a fat Aussie B@stard. If you ask Me

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2002

Some bloke behind said that it was a racist comment (ie the Fat Aussie Bar steward chant)

Disagreed with him but couldn't care really as we were beating the cr@p out of Leeds on the pitch.

No mistake.. He's fat, Ozzie and I doubt his parentage. 2 out of 3 does it for me ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2002

Didn't really answer your question there Sudden.

I was getting a bit nervous at one point, I remember uttering inder my breath, "Come on Aaron, don't let him turn you, don't let him turn you, don't let him turn you"

Then to my relief Speed slid about half the pitch before taking both the ball and Viduka out of play.

Interestingly, my Nana keeps calling Viduka by the name of "Viaduc" which is an interesting variation.

He may be a fat Aussie bar steward but he's a cracking player. Dabs and O'Brien did well to hold him today. The midfield did brilliantly in cutting out the supply.

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2002

.....strap his arms to his sides and he'd be bloody useless!

Gawd & bennet, people reckon Shearer fouls a lot in holding up the ball, but Verruca fouls anyone anywhere near him every time he gets the ball. Just another dirty get in a nasty, niggly nay downright dirty team.

Tossers!

Viduka for Shearer and we'd walk the League :0)

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2002

..... don't insult the man, and check the feckin League and the goalscorers table!

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2002

sorry, I think Viduka and Shearer are essentially the same, Viduka has more mobility and faster feet

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Clarky, I'm with you here. Viduka is the barging/elbowing get that everyone says Shearer is.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

So, they're "essentially the same", but "swap 'em and we'd win the League"! Too subtle for me, and anyway Shearer is a smarter player who scores more goals.

If things get tough Verruca will be away from Leeds like sh*t off a shovel, and in all honesty I wouldn't swap 'em.

When Viduka was one of 3 on 1 against Given the fat bastard went for glory when laying it off would have been a certain 2-2. Mr Shearer was desperate for his 7th in 7 and let Nobby take the free kicks and made the right passes when other were in better shooting positions. He took one speculative shot at the death and that wasn't a bad shout, drifting just wide of the far post in the Gallowgate. No contest on the team player front. It's teamwork that's making this work so well for us and they can keep their thuggish glory-merchants and choke on it.

I'm amazed at you all taking the easy line at Viduka, and also surprised you all have the same view of Viduka as the rest of the Premiership has of Shearer.

I do think Viduka is a hard, committed player and I thought the battle with Dabs yesterday was a brilliant cameo within the game. Shearer has no pace any more, he will never be in the middle to be on the end of a Dyer/Bellamy/Robert/Solano breakaway centre. Shearer has adapted to his loss of pace and we aren't losing out, but we could have so much more. If we had Shearer of four years ago we'd be better off wouldn't we ? I'm not saying Viduka is better than Shearer was, but I think he is better than Shearer is.

This is not a criticism of Shearer, not at all, it is my view that Viduka is good, and because of his mobility/pace currently better than Shearer.

I know it wil be said it is different but I think Michael Owen is better than Shearer too.

On a more general note, that may follow on from this. Where would this summer's investment go ? Our first XI have shown themselves capable of beating anyone (Liverpool faced Griffin, Lee, Acuna) so for me there needs to be a top quality central midfielder and maybe a look at cover up front. Bellamy is great but will miss games, and Shearer is our sole central forward. Shearer is the odd one out in the way we play, he doesn't have pace, and doesn't have mobility, maybe we should be making an offer for the munchkin ?!

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

It would be great to get the Munchkin, but a lot of fans wouldn't accept him.

If he was to go to you I would do the normal arse in Fenwicks window thing before slaying him and all his family!

Well maybe not,but I cannot see him going to you,us selling to you or you bidding for him.

dunno can't see any of Bracewell, Venison or Given joining us either

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Only Bracewell went directly between the two.

Maybe we could buy from you,you know like Lee Clark!

Superkev will NOT go to Newcastle. There would be deaths on the streets of Sunderland if that happened (mainly in the vicinity of the ssol)

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Nah, he wouldn't join us. He has stayed with Sunderland longer than he might have done because he wants to keep the legend intact and he's hardly going to sully the legend by joining us. Besides which, if we are spending Phillips type money, it should be on a decent CM.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Petit is rumoured to be available for 5 milion.....

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

If you buy Phillips off us we may throw in 20000 tickets for you as well!

It would be funny if it was not as shite as it is now.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

maybe we should just go and buy all Sunderland's good players ?

or was that what i said

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Kev, Bobby has said many times that he isn't going to impede players like Shola and Chopra/Offiong by buying a "finished article" striker. Having said that, if we get into Europe, we'll have to buy one.

I know he commits more fouls than almost anyone in Europe but if we were going to buy one of your players, I'd be tempted by McCann.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Please,please,please take Mccann.

He is completely overated.

Our gold is in Phillips,Sorenson and Arca (at home!)

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

I've only seen him against us (like when he broke Pistone's leg in an, ahem, innocuous challenge) and on SKY and he's looked quite good so it's interesting to see your views. BTW, my sister's Makem BF is going round saying that he genuinely hopes you'll get relegated as it will shake things up. He also thinks that it will be a disaster if you beat us next month as it will give Reid at least another 12 months. He's almost as cheerful a soul as you.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

Hoping we get relegated?

There is NEVER any benefit in relegation.

Some people choose to try and take out a positive but there is not a real one there to be had.

How can he be a Sunderland fan if he is wishing them ill?

Stadium groupie is he?

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002

No, he is genuinely a Roker-original. I think he's just upset and ranting. My sister's a stadium groupie (well, she once went to Roker as a kid) and she's actually more philosophical about it on the grounds that if John Carew doesn't want to live in the North East, there's nothing Peter Reid, Bob Murray or anyone else can do it.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2002
