The caption said that the man was injured, with pellet wounds in the abdomen. If the pellets hit him, then the angle was correct, but he may have been just beyond the flame torch. Any closer and he might have got a nice burn as well! I was suprised by the length of the torch that thing throws out.

If that hi-base blast had hit him at that range he'd have been gutted rubber pellets (?) or no. Any idea where this historical edifice is?

I think what we are seeing is about a millisecond after the impact of the pellets with the side of his gut. It looks as though the force of the blast has actually blown his hand up against his body and his shirt forward. If it had been a shot to the head or chest the guy would probably be dead.

All respects to DailyNews but think they may have blown this one. The guy is in full flight while the cop solidly standing. If the fleeing guy had indeed just decided to leap away and indeed the stationary cop decided to shoot him at just that moment then two things have to be true. The guy who decided to run is an idiot and cop is a terrible marksman. Still think the shot went down the sidewalk at somebody else.

I think the guy had just thrown that pot at the cop, the cop aimed at the guy, so the guy has just finished doing a 180 and is bolting in the opposite direction as the cop fires at his ass. The cop is actually a good shot, as he is slightly leading the victim by shooting along his right side, in anticipation of his moving farther forward. The dork did not move as fast as the cop was leading him, so he got blasted on his right side of the gut where his shirt is being blown forward. A cuple milliseconds after this shot, the dork was probably knocked right up against the wall, and fell to the ground whimpering.

Cop hit him for sure. Draw a line from the cop's two feet and you will see that it intersects with the running guy's left foot. Now hold your hands in the same position as the cop, and you will see that the line of fire angles off just forward of the line through the feet, striking the "suspect" dead on.
