What is righteousness?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

In my morning quiet time with the Word of God, I was drawn over and over again to the word, "righteous; and righteousness". How about a word study? In your opinion, what is righteousness? In His Grace, Sissy

I think it has to do with being faithful to the standards of truthfulness, honesty, compassion etc.

Nobody is righteous in that nobody can keep to God's standards. We can see many of those standards, however, and attempt to keep them.

God sees us as righteous if we believe Jesus, recognizing and accepting the offering of his life for our sins. Sounds pat to write it like this but makes great sense in overview.

Paul argured that Abraham, David, and others were justified by their faith, not be being righteous, which they clearly weren't. He further argues, as above, that it is the the faith in Jesus that justifies us before God.

Jesus said as much in his own words.

Good question here. I really don't have a great answer. So I guess I need to do a little study. I suppose that's what makes it a good question........I'll have to study some to clarify the thoughts I have right now that I can't seem to put down here in any forrm that will make sense. Thanks.

Abraham's belief in what God told HIm counted for righteousness. Noah's belief in what God told him was righteousness. an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ is righteousness. Righteousness is not in the law, but by faith in God. Belief!
