Lolo speaks: no trouble with his hip

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

1. You took up physical training on Monday. Did you start ballwork the next day?

No, I carried on with the physical stuff until yesterday morning when my team-mates returned from a couple of days off. The good news is that I felt no reaction. My base of my back was a bit heavy but that's normal after more than a week doing nothing and there should be no problem with playing this weekend.

2. Are you a bit worried?

Well, it's clear that I'm not 100% match fit. I'll need to get games under my belt to get back into the rythm properly but in two or three games' time, I should be fine.

3. Will you start the Leeds match?

All things being equal, I will start, especially because the manager is really counting on me to play in this game.

4. You play Leeds who you beat in December 4-3 and who currently lead the Championship. What do you think of Leeds?

It's going to very difficult. We beat them recently and they will want their revenge. Even though Leeds are a big club and things haven't gone so well for us the past couple of weeks, we really want wo win. There are three teams on 39 points and Leeds have 41. If we want to remain in the leading group, we have no choice in the matter - we have to win.

5. The good news is that Liverpool lost their game in hand.

It's true and they are sill one point behind us which is why we absolutely have to win tomorrow.

6. Any transfer news?

No one has joined the squad but one of our players has been lent out to a Spanish club. I have to go and get ready for training now. Talk to you Monday.

So he'll start. I admit I have lost patience with him the last few times he's played, but you never know if that was just his injury, so I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. Hope he turns it on in style. Ta Dougal....

Nick - form is transient: class is permanent. Hopefully!

I'd just love him to remind us of what he can do.

You mean sulk off on the sidelines and complain to Robson he's not getting the ball? :-)

I agree Dougal, I really hope he performs tomorrow.

He's been rubbish lately but you know that he's the kind of player that if you sold him to another club, he'd be fantastic.

By the way where do you get all these interviews with LR from?

Anyone think he was rubbish at Arsenal?

I think hes a fantastic player that will keep us challenging for a Champions League place.

By the way Dougal thanks for the translation - I read it on his website yesterday and only understood about 3 words, although I can say "My daughter is teething, I'll call him back" in French it doesnt really help with Lolos interviews.

Jim, it's from his official site (http://www.laurent-robert.com). They keep saying they are going to put it into English at some point. I also check out the PSG sites as they are still wailing about his absence and haven't forgiven the club for selling him (it is about the same level of grief as we felt about selling Pedro) which is partly why I'm so convinced that we should keep the faith.

Off the point a bit, I note from PSG that Domi is moaning because an apparently useless (the fans agree on this point) left back is taking his place and he can't even get on the bench. There's also a bit of mirth at the possibility of our paying £5 million for Distin (because of his temperament rather than anything technical, I gather).

Let's sell them Marcelino and see who's laughing then, eh?

There seems to be a level of reluctance in accepting that Robert has doen anything worthwhile for us.

I'd like to believe his season starts today. Between now and the end of the season he becomes the equivalent of a player of the season. He scores ten goals, makes stacks of others, his performances in takin gus to the championship title mean he has to go to the World Cup ....

Everything I've seen so far this season suggests that Lauren Robert is the difference between us being one of the pack and a genuine contender.

He has not played well recently - apart from a cameo 20 minutes at Highbury - but imo he should not have been playing at all with a hip muscle tear. Muscle tears simply do not heal by participating in what is the highly physical game of pro football.

He is an incredible talent, and it is up to the Manager and coaching staff, AND his team mates to get the best out of him. Like everyone, I'd like to see him tracking back when we don't have the ball, but primarily I want to see him running directly at the opposition in their penalty area, as frequently as possible.

Totally agree Clarky, he IS the difference.

However, so is Shearer, and Bellamy, they are all vital cogs in our machine.

To suggest that he's done nowt for us is a diservice to the bloke, he has probably earned us at least another 15 points. Basically the first 6 games were down to goals that he either scored or made, plus he's won most of our penalties.

An exceptional talent, if peole start booing or jeering him today he could be back off to France which would be terrible news.

Even a Laurent Robert who is unfit and static is an asset to us. He has a reputation as a quality player therefore the other team will mark him up, spreading the back four across leaving more space for our darts (Bellamy and Dyer)
