Just call me the "homestead gourmet" (Kitchen (Cooking))

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Made myself grilled salmon patties with chive (from my kitchen herb window garden)sauce, garlic butter sauted shitaake mushrooms, wilted dandelon green salad with italian seasoning and a goblet of chilled homemade pear wine. I ate by the light of my antique kerosene lamp thats the centerpiece of my table. Graham Kerr ain't got nuthin' on me :>)

Wow, your already getting dandelon greens? Your probably already getting burned out by the time ours start growing.

ROFLMAO! The above comment. Hehehehe

Sure Jay I start a diet today and your write about salmon and mushrooms. Tell me more about the lamp would ya?!!?!?

-- Ross (amulet@istar.ca), January 10, 2002.

The lamp was bought in the early 1900s from the Sears Roebuck outhouse catalog and stands about two foot tall from base to chimney top and has a mirrored oak wall sconce to put it on the wall.

As far as the greens go, I always have them. I have a couple thousand growing in the greenhouse for leaf and root harvesting as part of a wild foodstuff cultivation research study.

Hi Jay Sounds yummy, do you have a recipe for the pear wine? Would love to try it. Kim :-D

-- Kim in Indiana (kwcountrygirl@aol.com), January 11, 2002.

I have to reference my wine logs and recipe books and will post the easiest basic recipe and the one I think turned out the best result. I should be able to post a thread tomorrow.

That's the spirit Jay! Live large, enjoy your lifestyle, and never give up your dreams!

Sounds like the motto here at Wintersong: Every day's a holiday and every meal's a feast!

Jay,

Another countryside gourmet here! He he! Can buy frozen whole salmon at the local dillons for about $3. Heck, if I go looking, it's been a mild anough winter I might even find dandelion greens.

Say, what all type greens do you grown in your green house?? I have a few winter lettuce and one lousy swiss chard eecking out a living between straw bales under glass on the south side of the house.

Keep it up Jay, your soon going to be happier than you've ever been, and in the meantime you can keep us all amused. :-)

Having been through a divorce in the past myself, I cannot emphatically stress enough how imperetive it is to treat yourself like royalty. Keep it up, Jay. It will make you feel loads better.

Debbie,

Yes , I am somewhat indulging myself with simple extravengances. My ex always insisted on simple country fare done basicly by pre 1960 recipes, while I like taking something basic and dressing it up a little by stacking a few basic simplicities together as a tantelizing, classy country nose thumb with a good meal as a result. I guess it is a creativity thing. This little indulgence cost me less than $2 to prepare and I never uttered the words "hamburger helper " at any time.:>)

Jay, just think what that meal would cost you in a fancy restaurant! Some fools think the more you spend, the better the meal. Bon appetit! Cowgirlone in OK
