Using NERO5.5 to burn AVIs to VCD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I want to create a VCD of a movie I downloaded as an AVI file using NERO. After I select to create a VCD in the wizard I drag and drop the file into the playlist box (as usual) and then select to burn. In the progress box (the top half of the burning screen) I am getting a message saying: XXXXXXXXXXX.avi not enough memory, and nothing else happens. In the far top left hand corner of the burn screen it also says DONE. Does anybody know where I am going wrong ????? I have several movies on my hard drive that I am desperate to put on VCD. PLEASE HELP

Regards

Go to www.vcdhelp.com and read their guides on making VCDs, particularly ones on using TMPGenc. You can get TMPGenc for free at www.tmpgenc.com. TMPGenc will give you much better results than using Nero's encoder. You don't say how much memory you have in your PC, so you could be running out of memory when you use Nero to encode. If TMPGenc gives a similar message, it would probably be a good idea to get more memory.

I wouldnt use nero. It does a very poor job of converting avi to vcd. It will look good for about 5 mins and then get worse and worse. TMPGen is much much better

Downloaded NERO55.546 and that sorted the problem out, but you are right in saying that it looked good for 5 min then goes quite poor.

always encode with tmpg first to vcd format and only use nero to burn it.
