Trinity

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Could you please explain Trinity to me? I am what I consider to be a Christian but I have yet to make up my mind on this one thing. And I know the bible says to be Hot not lukewarm so I want no second guessing in my mind.

I know that it says In the begining was the Word. Genisis I believe. And the Word was made flesh. Corinthians I think. But also when called Good Teacher did Jesus not say, "Why do you call me good? There is none that is good but he above." And when asked about the End Times he said, "No one knows the day and hour but the Father in Heaven."

Thank you for your time! :-)

I think you haven't received an answer because we are unsure of your question. In your question/statement you seem to acknowlege a trinity. Perhaps if you be more specific someone will be able to anser you in a manner that will help you come to an understanding.

My friend: In Genesis 1:1,2 we fing "God" and the "Spirit of God". Also in Genesis 1 we find God speaking the creation into existence, the "WORD" of God is also present in creation. In John 1:1-5, we find the Eternal Word again present in creation and the instrument of creation. Then John 1:14 clearly identifies the Eternal Word as Jesus, the Christ. Hebrews 1:1-4 also restates the above truths. Note: In the old Testament, the Holy Spirit is most often referred to as the Spirit of God. in those days, His residence was not on earth, though He did "fill" and control persons (Baalim Numbers 24:2 is an example. When Jesus ascended back to the Father, the residence of the Holy Spirit became earth with men, indwelling and filling. Remember Jesus said He would never leave us; as Emmmanuel (God with us) fulfilled by His person and then the person of the Holy Spirit. Those are the references I use, there are others but I'll leave the study up to you.

Blessings,

Pastor Paris

Sorry about that.I have cookies on from another forum. Razzor-D@WebTV.net

What I meant was the concept confusses me. That I understand where it comes from but that from Jesus' own words he seem to contradict it. If he were the Father he would be "good" and he would know when the EndTimes where. But then it does say that the Word Became Flesh...

I have been trying to learn as much Revelation as possable. Most of it is writtin in like a code sort of, but alot of it is coming true right before our very eyes! Is the End now? The Roman Empire is starting to reform. Single European Currancy. That is the first step in a European Super Nation. I know thats off topic, sorry.

Tator it is good that you are asking these theological questions. I would like to suggest that you attend an A.M.E church near you and develop a relationship with the pastor and the congregation. That way you could participate in Bible studies that will help you learn more. Just remember tator that God has all the power and he sent his son to us to give us that good news. Tator for now trust in God and you will receive answers. The book of revelation can be a confusing book for a christian. Do not give up for you have a heart and mind that thirsts for more knowledge about God. Where do you live? Perhaps some on the board can suggest a church for you. God bless you!

Thanks for your advice Rev. Rogers. I live in Corinth, MS but my work scedual would make it next to impossable to attend church reguarlly. (12 hours nights, 5 days a week, 4 on 2 off, that was I dont have the same days off each week)

I have always been facinated by Revelation. I have read it several time and have veiwed many movies about it. Like Omega Code and Left Behind. I have got a Left Behind book but have yet to have the time to read it. And I havent seen Omega Code 2 yet.

You know how it says that the moon will turn to blood? Well a year or two ago we hade that Lunar Eclips. And the Red Light waves bend just a little bit more than the others, so the moon wasnt black but was instead a deep crimson red. Just somthing for you to think about...

And one third of the water will turn to blood. I take that to mean that you cant drink it. With all this Biological and Chemical warfare that seems highly possable, wouldnt you agree? And there was one place in the Bible, I dont know where, Im not a preacher, that said the word would be preached throughout the world. With the internet that is now happening. And by talking to me you are helping to fullfill one of God prophacies!

Wow! Tator your work situation sounds grueling. I would suggest you find an A.M.E church in your town or a near by town and call the pastor. There may be a morning men's fellowship that meets before work. There could also be a lunchtime bible study. Tator I know God will find a way for you to get to church. Put God first, and everything else will fall into place. There may be a better job waiting for you with more pay and more time off. God wants his children to know and I can guarantee if you pray to God and ask him to make a way so you can go to church he will do it. And tator one thing to remember about the book of revelation "The christians win!" Keep us posted about connecting to a church. And I just have a feeling God is going to do something about your work situation. I will pray for you Tator. May our heavenly father send you to a church to learn and understand his word! Amen

Hey guess what! when I got to work last night I foung out that we are moving to another shift scedual(?)! I used to be on this one. I will work 4 nights for six weeks and then work 7 in a row (this is to change the end of the week that I am working on) and then I work 3 nights for 6 weeks and then I get 7 days off! (when I work 7 nights the other end of the week ppl get their nights off and visa versa) With this sceadual church would still be difficult but not impossable!

WOW!

Tator...try attending the church within. I go there all the time and enjoy the fellowship with Supreme Spirit. This church works well with a busy schedule, requiring self determination and control.

Tator it is always darkest before the dawn. God has his hands on you. And if you pray and ask God to give you a job that would allow you to attend church. I know it will happen. The hours you describe are hard to do. Tator, Pray until there is the movement of the Holy Spirit, God loves his children, he wants you happy and able to worship him. Not a job. I suspect you are not happy with the job you now have. And if you pray to God three times a day. And ask for God's help, God will provide a way for you to attend church and have a job that is not so tiring. You have not asked him before. Now is the time! Ask and ye shall receive. Ask God to allow you to go to church to know him and ask your Boss if you can have every other Sunday off to go to church. Tator in my congregation most of my members work two jobs. But a great percentage of them have made arangements with their bosses to have every other sunday, or one sunday a month off to come to church. They are putting God first. I will be your prayer partner, and I will pray 3 times a day, that God provides a way for you to get to church and also get a better job. God your father has so much he wants to give you Tator, go to him in prayer. Just share with him what you posted on the board. He loves you Tator and he wants to take care of you. P.S please put your correct email, the next time you post there are two boxes, "your email address" your full name, you need to change the old email address. Keep up Posted.

Im not really into putting my name onto the internet but if youre willing to pray for me then its the least I could do! More about me: Im a 19 year old male High School dropout (well, kicked out) I like TV, Music, and politics! Been out on my own for about a year now. And I like to learn more about things that make you think. Think about the world around you and think about yourself. I have been to almost every Christian Denomination Church I can think of. Even Jehovahs Witnesses. (They are right about some things) But I havent been to church in over five years. People are so judgemental. They act like your not good enough for their church. And judge you by the money you put in the plate.

I have heard of some churches using fishnets so they will only get paper money. If I ever went to a church like that I would right a check for a quarter. I dont give to churches. I remember going to school and the preachers kids would have nice name brand clothes while everyone else have Wal-Mart and K-Mart on. And they thought that they were better that everyone else because of it. Thats why I give to St. Jude in Memphis.

Thanks for your prayers! I will have to practice a little bit, I guess. I aint memorising anything. I will tell him what I have to say. Not what someone else had to say.

Oh and the name! Michael George! My mom named me after Michael Jackson (it was the early 80s) and then George Michael comes out! Nothing goes my way! hehe!

Tator you shared about yourself and I want to tell you a little about my spiritual journey. I pastor a church in Montana and I am 49. I was a high school drop out and an alcoholic when I was 16. I was living in Cleveland. I had stopped going to church when I was 8. Because all the pastor did was collect money for his cadillac, I did not understand why my grandmother walked to church with her arthritis to give the pastor money for his new car. I hated church and God. And at the age of 12, I joined the Nation of Islam, I was bitter, hateful and full of rage. So at 16 when I dropped out of school, my best friend went to her pastor and asked him to pray for me, it was a United Methdist church, the next week she went back and said "it's not working go and get her!" Well he did, and I said NO! six times, the seventh time I went to church and learn about Jesus. I learned that he loved me, I learned that I was not stupid! Tator I went back to school and graduated with my class. I have been on my own since I was sixteen. Or so I thought, you see God has always had his hand on me, because somebody prayed for me. I got sober at the age of 21. I have not had a drink since that time, I am an alcohol and substance abuse therapist, a social worker, violence prevention specialist and Pastor. You see Tator once I let God into my life. He transformed it! I have a college degree and a graduate degree from Princeton Seminary. Me, the one the teachers made fun of. Tator God never gave up on me, and it has been the support of God, Jesus and the church that has been my anchor. Now Tator there are some bad churches. If you could across one, leave and keep praying. I am old enough to be your mother, and I will pray for you Michael, and I will not stop praying until God has you totally. This week a church in Montana is praying for you. I want you to say this prayer "Oh God, please protect me. Lord I want to go to church so that I can learn about you! I also ask that you provide the right job for me so that I can go to church. I love you lord. Amen. Tator, you say that prayer over and over. I am so proud of you, do not give up hope. Read as much as you can and the National Geographic is a wonderful magazine. Keep posting on the board. I know others will pray for you.

-- Anonymous, January 14, 2002

I was just wondering about the National Geographic because thats what I do. I print National Geographic. It is the best printed Mag in the world. I can attest to that. We print about 8 pages at a time and will throw away all of them if one page has a pin prick spot anywhere on it. Last week they threw away 300,000 12 pages. For something noone could see. Until GoodYear saw their ad and said it was wrong. *sigh*

Sorry about the name and addy on that last post. Still got cookies on. Here is a LINK to a thread about my religious beleifs. We may not agree on everything but we are made of our experiances in life. So we cant agree on everything. We have had different experiances, havent we?

-- Anonymous, January 14, 2002

Hmmm. Link didnt work. I never could get the links to specific threads to work right. I would embed the entire thread into this one but some ran all over the other forum using Java and if I did then this thread would be closed. You couldnt post and answer. Alright, try this: www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg-tcl?msg_id=006DDO. If that link dont work you may have to type it into your address bar.

Tator this discussion board is run by Rev. John Fisher, he does this as a gift to all of us. And pays for it with him own money. When you start adding running script and changing code, it infringes on his board. So I would suggest you contact Rev. Fisher and ask him if it is alright to add these things. He can be contacted at jfisher@ame-today.com You seem to like computer language. I am hoping you will finish school and go on to college and perhaps get a degree in the computer field. The A.M.E church could use some young people who have a heart for God who knows how to use computer language. I know at the University in my town, the students graduating with a degree in computer science are starting out at 50,000 dollars.

My mother turned 41 on Pearl Harbor Day. I was taken from her by the State of TN when I was 4 and placed in the coustidy of my Aunt (her sister). It didnt really affect me none because my mother was in the Military and my aunt had me since I was about 9 months. My mother got me back when I was 3 and my aunt when I was 4. After that my mother became a Jehovahs Witness.

My aunt thought I should spend more time with her, mainly because she thought it was unhealthy for an 8 year-old not to care nothing for his mother. So whenever I had to go over there she made me go to their Kingdom Hall. I hated the place. I still dont care for her none. Whenever I refer to her I call her "my mother" not Mom. I dont even call her Mom to her face. Or by her name. I dont really call her anything, I guess. She is one of those people that if you know her you cant help but dislike her.

I live in the Bible Belt. Which wouldnt be such a bad thing if it werent for all these Hypocrites out here. They dont allow the sell of beer on Sunday but you can find these all knowing good people on the Golf Coarse, after Church, with beer they bought Saturday. If you dont want your parish to buy beer fine but anyone who wants to get waisted on a Sunday Morning isn't going to decide to go to church just because the beer store is closed. Oh, and I am a none drinker!

The Acton Church of Christ is terrible. They are so uppity! They all got their high dollar suits and dresses on and look down on those with lesser suits. Imagine their face when I walk in: faded jeans, KoRn T-shirt, Steel Toe Work Boots, and unkept hair! I just like being comforitable. You cant get much from a if your pants itch and the neck on your shirt is too tight (mainly from the tie). The Sentury (door greeter) always seems to be sizing you up. Not sincere with their, "How are you today? Where abouts are you from?" You can tell its face by the way their eyes go up and down you and their weak "I dont want to touch this rouge" handshake.

But, honestly, who did Jesus hang out with? John the baptist was running around like a wild man eating berries and screaming of the coming Son of God. Jesus also hungout with Lepers. He touched them. Thats the modern equivalent of having sex with an AIDs patiant. And prostitutes. Tax collecters, they were seen as Lawyers and Polititions are today. But worse because Jewish Tax Collectors were working for Rome.

Jesus was a Hippie. Think about it. He preached about love. He was against the greed and wealth that had taken over the Jewish religion. And he fought the "Man" (Jewish Leadership). Not through folk songs. Instead he used fables to explain the Bible to both the common man and the Jewish Leadership (I cant think of what they were called right now).

I dont know where I was going with all this. Sometimes I wander. I guess the real point is that Jesus fought against the very thing that many Christian Denominations today are becoming. Remember that Preacher that said that God would kill him if he didnt get 1 million dollars? Jesus did alot more with a crown of thorns and a few nails than these TV preachers do with their Millions.

Rev. Rogers, may I make a suggestion. Place a couple a boxes on the wall in the back of the Church, with some slits in them. That is where people can donate their money. The people who put in their 20 to 50 bucks each week will still do so if they are doing it out of sincerity. But I think most do it to gloat because people can see them drop that large amount in the plate. And then it gets passed around. The poorer of the Congragation then feel ashamed of the little they can put in. Their handfull of change.

Michael my congregation is made up of poor people. They have been jail, alcoholics, and most feel that they can barely hang on. But there has been a transformation because of the healing power of God. I love my congregation, I am so honored that I can be their pastor. And in terms of the collection plate. They feel comfortable. A year ago I said when the plate comes by and you have no money, say prayer, then pass it down. In my church I have one woman who tithes $50.00 every week, she does it because she loves are church. you see, she spent a lot of time in jail from drinking, and other churches didn't want her. She spent most of her time at home. She is a leader in our churh, and is greatly loved. People wear jeans, sneakers, dresses, etc. some travel from another city to get here. Tator all I can say is you can hold to past resentments or hold on to Jesus and have a future of love and power. We can spend years discussing why you don't want to go to church. Tator I think you want to go and you are scared. Tator just go, and go to an A.M.E church. I am not going to respond anymore because it is just the two of us talking back and forth. But I will continue to pray for you and our prayer team will be notified tomorrow that they are to pray for you. Keep posting, but get to church!!!
