Dead Canon EOS 630

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have a Canon EOS 630 that suddenly went dead. There is nothing at all in the LCD display. The battery has been changed, but to no avail. What could be the problem?

Is the whole camera actually dead or just LCD? If LCD only it has its own battery, and it may be dead.

The LCD is powered from the main battery. In fact I don't think there is an internal battery in the 630 (there is one in the T90 and I think there is one in the EOS-1, used to hold memory settings).

My guess is that either it really is dead (somthing internal failed) or there's a problem with the battery contacts.

All of the camera functions are dead...no film wind, shutter, etc... The battery contacts appear to be in top shape. I just thought that someone might have experienced a similiar problem. I also have the sticky tar like substance on my shutter blades that have been described in other questions on the forum. Now I know where it came from and how to clean it.

Yeah, but you can't clean the shutter without the camera being able to fire it. The 630 is a nice camera, probably worth getting it checked out.

My Canon EOS 630 also recently died suddenly. It just wouldn't turn on one day. I came to the board looking for someone with the same problem--too bad it seems there's no quick fix. Until now, I have not had any problems with the camera since I bought it new 12 years ago.
