Flash bracket for Metz 32Z-2 and M6

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Friends,

I'm looking for a flash bracket to allow me to use a Metz 32Z-2 flash adjacent to my M6TTL. I gather the Nikon SC17 cord is ideal for the connection - I would value advice on which bracket to purchase.

Thanks - Steve

One of the other participants just went through the same process. I believe he ended up with a Stroboframe FlipFlash, using it on an M5. I use an earlier model StroboFrame (no model # stamped on it - sorry), with one end of the Nikon SC-17 bolted to the head of the bracket using its 1/4-20 socket. The other end of the SC-17 just plugs into the hot shoe on the M, and you're in business. Note that the SC-17 cord is really long for this setup. A shorter cord would be handier, but . . .

I think a Stroboframe would be a bit of overkill with an M6. For a few dollars you can buy a simple folding flash bracket at most well- stocked camera stores, or for much less at any camera swap show. I would also invest in the Metz Bounce Reflector for the Z2. I find it works as well as a tall bracket to reduce red-eye but avoids the unpleasant under-nose and under-chin shadows.

One thing to be careful of: *NEVER* lift or hold the setup by the camera! The leverage on the M6's off-center tripod socket and removable baseplate would be enough to cause damage.

Thanks for the help. Jay: thanks for the warning. This hadn't occurred to me - guess you may have saved me a few $.

All the best, Steve
