Do Liverpool actually want Man Utd to win the title?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

They were 11 points clear of Man Utd the other week. The media were full of how they were built on defensive solidity and had a calm/unhysterical management team who could stand the pressure better than we did in the same circumstances. In fact, they basically said that Man Utd would never catch up with Liverpool.

Sorry, folks, but in terms of the Championship, Saturday doesn't matter a whit: Man Utd will win the PL again this season.

See, and here I thought Liverpool were being nice to us and giving us a chance. :-)

It puts things in perspective when you realise we've beaten the top 3 clubs (Leeds, Arsenal, ManU) already, and the challengers below us (Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs) who we haven't beaten, seem to be doing their best to lose against 'weaker' opposition without our help. Injuries apart, the battle from now on in is a mental one.

Agree Pete. Just when we shoot ourselves in the foot the other buggars seem to shoot their legs off. What a brilliant, brilliant season!

I got the impression Liverpool wanted Leeds to win the title when they sold Fowler to them....

let's just hope and pray we don't need three points come the last game of the year away at Southampton....

Liverpool are terrible right now. I don't expect them to finish in the top 4.

Have to disagree. All teams go through a shitty period. We wrote Man u off; we were on a good run til recently; Southampton were already relagated and so on - look what's happened.

IMHO L'pool are just going through a patch (unfortunately), and will be there or thereabouts come the run-in. The question is - will we?

Personally, I'd prefer Man Utd to win it than for Liverpool to win it but it would be nice to see a bit of a battle at the end of the season.

I think we should carry on distancing ourselves from the Championship battle (at least publicly), pick up as many points as we can and see where we end up at the end of the season.

Having discarded Fowler, Liverpool have become way too dependent on YMO and his dodgy hamstrings. Unless he plays in the majority of their games they'll come unstuck because Heskey's a big tart, Litmanen's a good player but won't score too many in the PL, and I was pleased to Anelka do bog all with attitude last night.

I've seen S'ton a few times recently and they actually look a canny side, and played well last night - hopefully Strachan will ensure they self- destruct.

...but not before they play manure... ;-)
