greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have tried to do this with tmpeg encoder with no joy. I have had no problem with vcds, the reason for this is i have a tv that doesnt support ntsc (pants i know) and i need the conversion to pal.

I've read that Ulead Video Studio version 6 can supposedly do this, but I have never done it and don't own the product. Does your DVD player not have the ability to convert NTSC to PAL display on output? Most DVD players just reformat the NTSC image to PAL output. Make sure you set your TV output format on the DVD player to PAL not AUTO or MULTI or ANY or something like that. On some players, some people have incorrectly used AUTO, etc. which is only correct if you have a multistandard TV. This means send out to the TV the same signal as is on the disc. You want to make sure you send a PAL only video signal to your TV. It is possible that your DVD player simply can't convert NTSC to PAL, in which case I guess you will have to convert the image to PAL Now that I think about it, does your DVD player play SVCD at all? Maybe your problem actually is that it doesn't support SVCD, not that it doesn't support NTSC SVCD. You said that you have had no problem playing VCDs. I assume this includes NTSC VCDs. If so, then your DVD player does correctly convert NTSC to PAL and I bet your player just doesn't support SVCD. A lot don't. Look for the DVD player compatibility list at www.vcdhelp.com or another site and see what it says about your player.

Hi,

If your DVD-player doesn't support SVCD's, there's a trick to make it support them by changing some header information. I read that somewhere on vcdhelp.
