rail line from Chattanooga to Atlanta via Romegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread |
My g-grandfather,Benjamin Talmage Watkins, was rr man from Dillsboro, NC. He was stationed at a flagstop on the Southern Railway line (Central of Georgia?)in Byrd, GA, which I understand ran from Chatanooga to Atlanta via Rome (Byrd was 12 miles south of Rome). Does anyone have information about this line, or can you refer me to somewhere that does? He also lived and worked in Cisco, GA, for several years. Would that have been on a particular line?

I checked several Official Guides, an Official List of Open and Prepay Stations, and several Central of Georgia Official Station Lists. Byrd, GA is not shown as being rail-served in any of them - on either the Southern or the Central.Cisco, GA, was on the "Hook & Eye" line of the Louisville & Nashville RR, just below the Tennessee line.
